My son's getting a new rifle (and myself)!

My son's 14 and has shot deer for three years now and one elk (6pt). He has been shooting a Rem 700 in a 260Rem and last year a 300WSM. He got a Savage 17HMR for Xmas and between him and his buddy they have gone through the bank on ammo. Well because of all the shooting he has become a "Dead-eye" with this thing and raves about the Accu-Trigger. I made the mistake after a day of Coyoye hunting telling these two boys they should be shooting Savage rifles w/ Accu triggers for big game if they are shooting so well and like those triggers.

I didn't think too much of it until that eve his mom (she lives around his little finger) asked me if I'm getting him this gun with the "funny" trigger. I got to thinking I don't have any 30 cals in my cabinet so I said sure the next morn. I ordered him a Savage Weather Warrior FCSS 300 WSM and I took his Rem 700 300WSM.

I have a new toy to mod. :grin: So after a new stock and trigger and mounts and scope .... I'm ready to start working up a load for it and his when we pick it up next week.

Having a son that eats/sleeps the outdoors doubles my $ for everything I do outside. But it's worth every penny.

That is just too cool! I know he will enjoy the rifle, and so will you. What a wonderful wife to give her blessing to this investment in the life of her son. What a blessed son to have a dad who enjoys introducing him to the responsibility of tending to God's creation.

I've spent a chunk of change outfitting my sons with outdoor goodies over the years, and loved every bit of it!

Backpacks, mountain bikes, hiking boots, skis, rifles, shotguns, fishing rods, float tubes... Between the three of us, there's a small mountain of hunting and fishing gear here at the house. My wife is wonderful about it all... She grew up with two brothers, so I think that raising two sons has been a bit like a re-run for her... :grin:

I've got my half of the deal done 300WSM + Camo XCR Stock + Timney Trigger + Dual Dove Tail bases & VXIII 4.5 x 14. He has his Savage FCSS (Stainless w/ Box mag + Accu Trig and synthetic stock) ... Just waiting for the scope mounts from Midway. Mine arrived Thurs last week and still waiting for his. They were shipped the same day! :?: Even after mounting his VXII 3x9 BC, we still don't have any PRIMERS !!!! My wife says "Why can't you go buy him a box of ammo so he can shoot it?" As much as he's chopping the bit to shoot it, We've been busy chasing Coyotes and Salmon season opens up here next week to keep us busy while were waiting for primers.

It is always fun to get new rifles and get them outfitted to hunt. Sounds like that Savage will be a nice addition to the arsenal. I know about getting a son ready. I am still tinkering with his 243. I imagine once he really starts hunting I will get him a 270-30-06 or something. We have so much hunting stuff it fills bins in our garage. Scotty
