We are limited to a 300 Meter range, and were wondering if someone would be kind enough to run some info thru a ballistics program for us and tell us what we can expect out past 300 Meters, say up to 600 yards.

We have actual data for 100, 200, and 300 meters, and it isn't matching the ballistics charts in our Nosler handbook. I realize they are generic, but that's why we'd like to get some data extrapolated from our actual results, and not depend on the tables.

Also tried the ballistics calculator at http://www.biggameinfo.com/BalCalc.aspx and the results are pretty far off our actual findings.

Here's what we got:
.300 Win Mag
180 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip
75.5 gr. Reloder 22
Federal GM215M primers
(Nosler lists that load at 3118fps, but we have not actually chrono'd)
Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker w/ Boss (26" bbl.)
50mm scope w/ centerline 1 3/4" above centerline of bore

100 Meters = 4 1/2" high
200 Meters = 5 3/8" high
300 Meters = 0
Temp = 45 F, wind calm, overcast

We'd prefer everything in YARDS. The only reason we used METERS is that's what the ranges were set up at.

Thanks.

I've run your data through my ballistic program and the only way the data will match is if the muzzle velocity is 3012 fps.

You simply have to get a chronograph.

Slowhand, yes, I know. A buddy has a chrono that he lets us borrow, we just haven't done so for this, my son's rifle yet.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was running 100 fps slower than the Nosler book shows for that load. I just looked and they don't say what they used for the data published.

Let's assume velocity is the culprit, what did you get for trajectories at 100yds. thru 600yds. at 50 yd. increments, if I could bother you again.

Thanks for the help.

FYI,
I have repeated loads from the Nosler manual and the barnes and have very rarely reporduced the listed velocities. Get your own Chronograph.
In the real world there is very little difference on game between 3100 and 3012. Also 300 metres is a long way. Our range has 100,200 250 yards, 300 350 and 500 metre targets, and the hit % drops like a stone past the 300 metre target. I would really hesitate to shoot that far at game.

I AGREE THAT THE VELOCITY MUST BE ABOUT 3012 TO ACHEIVE WHAT YOU SAID. IN ASSUMING THIS, 350 YARDS = -1.68 , 400= -6.99,450= -13.93, 500= -22.63, 550= -33.02, 600 = -45.62, 650= -60.43,700 = -77.3 AND 750 YDS = -97.08
HOPE THIS DATA HELPS AND IS NOT TOO LATE. YOU REALLY DO NEED A CHRONY ALL THIS DATA IS ASSUMING 3012 FPS.

The best ballistics tables I have found on the net are at;
http://www.martindalecenter.com
Then go to Calculators online ctr./Engineering Ato Z/ Ballistics
There are several free calculators here, also if you like to eat the food section is great :grin:
