I have the option of getting a 270 wsm or a 264 win mag for free. Any input would be great. I can only get one of therifles.

If you reload, .264 without hesitation. Better bullets, and more cachet'.

Plus, it's not a .270...

If not a reloader, the WSM will probably be easier to find factory ammo for.

Both are great rounds. What are you going to use it for?

Nothing particular. I have a lot of guns. And reload. Just wondering everyone's input. I also have a 270 and a 6.5-06.

OK where is the shop giving them away located? :p

Seriously I would opt for a 270 WSM. Nothing wrong with an 150 LRAB at 3150 fps.

264 can not touch this.

I think I would lean towards the 264 Win Mag. You have a better selection of bullets and a lot of cool factor. 8)

You won't be disappointed with either. I have one and wouldn't mind having the other.

If it was me I would pick the 264, but unlike you I don't already have one of each caliber. As much as I dislike "SHORT" Magnums, I believe the 270 WSM, would have the edge over the .264 on larger game. Ballistics are probably equal.

Well. If you compare bullets from both calibers at a equal grain. Say 130 AB. The wsm has roughly 250 fps more. But of course that's only accurate on paper.

I agree with Fotis.
Components and factory ammo will be easier to find too I think.

Thats a tough one.. I would lean on the 264 Win Mag since you already have a 270 Win. I have both, the 264 Win Mag and 270WSM. I don't think you would really tell the difference. 140's at 3150 or so, and 140's out of the 270 will run about 3200. Little better BC on the 264, but once the 150 ABLR is dropped, that'll even the old 270 out quite alot I think.

The 264 Win Mag is very cool though. Mine is a very accurate rifle so far.

Component cost is a wash in my book, I think cases run the same price anyhow, and I don't find one any harder to find than the other. I think Norma, Nosler, WW and maybe even Remington make cases for both.

What kinda rifles are you looking at?

Accuracy runs about the same outta both Model 70's..

I've always thought the .264 Win Mag is a pretty cool round...it was pretty "cutting edge" in it's day---probably too much so. I would pick it. But if someone wanted to let me have the other for nuthin' I reckon I'd take it!

What is the barrel length on the 264? If it isn't at least 26" I wouldn't bother with it. What brand(s) model(s) of rifles? The 270WSM will do the same things as a 264 with a shorter/lighter package.

If I had the choice it would be the 270WSM.
Those short cartridges have kinda caught my attention lately 8)

Blessings,
Dan

Both are rugers. Not real sure on models. A friend of mine needs some diffs built for his rig. Wants to trade out.

I think I'd go with the 270 WSM, I've never been a fan of belted mags, even though I'm a big fan of the 6.5 caliber.

There were not many Rugers in the WSM calibers made and there likely won't be any more. The 264 has been cataloged more than once. The last I knew of had a 24" barrel.
