What size "mouse" did you tag with this one?
*Mauser haha. I may have been celebrating yesterday, all day. Didn't catch that lol

This one was super cool. A guy we hunted with was retired Airforce fighter pilot. He bought a few German Mouser's from a WWII Armory that was sealed up for years. It came covered in a cosmeline like substance. Told me if I clean it up I could carry it hunting, open iron sights and all. So I did. First deer I seen, I shot. I think it came in at 80 pounds.

I believe it's referred to as a K98? I don't recall 100%. The actual caliber was 7.92x something. I'm not good with those types of rifles and can't remember now, that was 1996.

Okay, I was kidding by only listing the 30-06, but I did eventually come to the realization that Dad was right back in the 1970's when he told me that the only rifle a fellow really needed was a 30-06.

Regards, Guy
My Dad said the very same thing. He passed away a few years ago at the age of 93, and hunted all his life with only a 30-06. He shot everything from ground squirrels to elk with a good old 30-06.

"6.5 Bleedmoor"

That is the second time I've heard someone refer to the Creedmoor as the Bleedmoor. (to be honest, I am still not sure if it was meant to be sarcastic or not.)

The first was our guide in NZ when we arrived for our 2023 red stag, fallow buck and Arapawa ram hunt.
She did mention after our hunt that she had a new appreciation of the 6.5 CM after witnessing the on-game performance of the 130 gr Terminal Ascent ammunition we were using.
She had never seen am Arapawa ram DRT prior to my wife's shot, as she said they would typically run 100 to 400 yards after lethal hits with any other cartridge/bullet combination. (The shot was heart/double lung through both shoulders with a complete pass through at 122 yards.) The one shot kills on the red stag at 296 and fallow buck at 267 didn't hurt either, as the fallow buck travelled the furthest after the shot, when it jumped and fell 15 yards down the side of the gut before expiring.

Darn I thought I was clever for thinking of that one! Yes it’s a fine cartridge. I took a big Roosevelt with mine a few years ago and was very impressed with the results. My handload was a 140 grain Speer impact over a stout load of H4350 and they clock about 2750fps from my tikka. I took the shot in deep timber about 70 yards right through one front shoulder and breaking the other. The bull made a lunge forward and ended up pushing downhill to its demise. It was maybe another 70 yards from where he stood when I shot him. I have seen a good number of these animals bleed from various other cartridges and calibers but I was blown away by how much blood that bull pumped out on the way down. That’s why I call it the “Bleedmoor”

I get 2855 fps with the 130 gr Terminal Ascent ammunition in my rifle's 24" Benchmark 5R barrel (LH Browning X Bolt All Weather). My rifle loves this ammo! It will produce 3 shot groups of 0.291" at 100 yards.
My Winchester 1885 High Wall in 6.5 CM also likes this ammo. It produces 2911 fps out of its 28" barrel with 3 shot groups of 0.599" at 100 yards. I plan on using it on my next antelope hunt (whenever that may be...)

.264 Win Mag
7mm Mag
.35 Remington
30-06
45-70
6.5-06
338-06
.41 Magnum
.264 was the first for antelope, deer and elk and has the most elk.
6.5-06 has killed the most animals, all deer and antelope.
