New High energy powders

Since hogdon doesnt' make anything themselves..they just buy it from someone else.....I have a hard time thinking the stuff is earth shattering. PLUS....they lose a bit of credibility when the proclaim that using the new powder in the 300 wby results in a whopping 3310 with A 150 GRAIN BULLET......WHOOOOOHOOOOO!

Personally I think we're seeing the marketing people telling us they have something really really new and it's probably a surplus that's been around for quite a while......or something that's been made by ADI (an Australian company) for a while..... (where they buy most their powder), or some other producer.

It is similar to H4350 powder................

I wonder how this would work in my 350RM?

most likely would not.

100V and a little more velocity out of the .260...... Hmmmm

Sign me up for a pound......

Let's see I am getting 3125 fps with a 300 gr Barnes X using H4350 in my 416 WBY. So maybe 100 fps more????

Hodgdon says it is manufactured in the US by St. Marks Powder of Florida. The initial numbers look good in some cartridges, I was wondering how it will do in my NULA '06 for example.

I wonder if W780 is the powder that Winchester uses in the 458 win. mag. Safari load. If so it may be some really good powder, because it can propell a 500gr. Nosler Solid to an astonishing 2240 fps !!! That kind of a velocity from that little 458 win. mag. case with that large monolithic solid is IMPRESSIVE if it comes from a 24 inch barrel.
Some time ago I had a 458 win mag rifle and I wasn`t able to achive more than 2100 fps. with Barnes Solids in a 24 inch tube, without very difficult bolt lift. This maybe the powder of choice for that little 458.

I kind of doubt W780 is the factory powder for the 458 mag. Big bore, straight walled cartridges normally do best with slighty fast to mid-range burn rate powders such as BL-C2, 3031 or H322. W780 is claimed to be on the slower side.
Might be wrong though, wouldn`t be the 1st time
