New huntress - well, next April...

It is tough to beat the 308win but as Dr.Mike stated it so much fun picking something different. My motto is so many calibers and way too little time :(.
What ever you decide it will be just right for your hunting partner (y).
Please keep us informed.

Blessings,
Dan

The 7-08 would be new to.me.
In 6,5 I have the Creedmoor and loaded for a 6,5x55.
7x57 would be new, too. Only loaded for 7x64.
So many options....

Ah, yes, the 7X64! Wonderful cartridge! Much like my favourite cartridge, the .280 Rem. And it is quite capable of about any game one would ever wish to hunt. The venerable 7X57 is yet another cartridge that is simply too good to ever die. Wouldn't go wrong with one of those!

I would highly recommend the 6.5x55, just to have something a little different from your rifles for her; making it truly hers.

Yes, but...
For some driven hunts a minimum of 7 mm is required. Not by law, but by the organizers. But I guess we could just not go then.
I think I sold the dies for the Swede.
Bad dicision.

Update:
I ordered a Savage tactical hunter about three months ago, but they simply do not make it over the big pond.
So I contacted a few shops to get a Bargara ridge for testing.
And what shall I say - it fits and now we are waiting for the pica rail to arrive.
Then we hope that the stands stay open for ammo testing.
Found a few good loads with bullets and powder I have and I would be very surprised if I can't make it shoot.
We have January for deer season, otherwise she has to wait for May to get her first buck...

Btw: it is a 308.
Maybe we will get her a can, too.

Update updated:
Thanks to Corona our stands are still closed.

Can you imagine how it feels to have a brand new gun in the safe, a load ladder ready, scope mounted and bore sighted - and just leave it there?!
Current season is over, but boar are open all year and roe bucks, female yearlings and some red stack open again 1st of April (one month earlier that the last X years) and I really hope to have her ready to go by then.
Had a few Remi700 in hand over the years.
Well. The Bergara feels better.
Hope it shoots as well as it feels

As it comes threaded, I am considering getting her a silencer

That has to be disappointing for sure. Hope you are able to get shooting soon. I like my Bergara B14 7mm08 very well. Might get a can for it myself someday. Dan.

Dan, the Bergara really feels good.
We are somewhat limited with cartridge choice here (though Spain is closer to me than to you), but nothing wrong with 308 for our hunting.
I am really looking forward to testing that rifle and getting it ready for my better half

And then sitting next to her when she tags her first game. I will probably be more nervous than her...

Just reading an article in Petersens "Rifle Magazine". Do some honest comparison between the 6.5 Sweede and the Creedmore and you will find what the marketers dont want us to know... about 50 FPS difference... especially if you reload. 7mm-08 is a great round- who am I to argue w/ C. Boddington? but a 7x57 nothing wrong with that either. Not trying to discourage you from anything... Just grab your reloading mannual and compare. CL

Actually, for our hunting any mid-sized cartridge will do. Shots are rather short, game not too big.
So the 308 will do nicely with cheap practice ammo available. For reloading hunting ammo there is hardly a difference to other cartridges.
