New job...

Jeez, Scotty, you and Woodycreek need to work on your teamwork. When the wife sees something new, you can reply with, "Oh that's Brian's..."

So here's how you do it...

Before you even see your new paycheck, let alone calculate how much "take home" pay there is, open up a fidelity account and have 50-100 bucks taken out of your check each time and buy stocks, bonds, etc.. with that money. When you want to buy something you sell some stock, pay a very small commission and you have a check in 3 days in your mailbox. Yes you must declare any interest on a 1099int form, but I can attest it is well worth it.

I have bought the last 4 or 5 rifles that way just using the interest alone. I always try to keep XXXX amount in the fund and play with the interest. The past three years I have done very very well. Plus when you want to take the wife out someplace nice or go on vacation, you have a nice little fund to surprise her with.

Just a thought. Save a little and compound that with your employee discount.. Shazamm!!!

What a great job, I would be having to fine a 3rd job to pay for my second job . I am one of the lucky ones as my wife always asks how many guns do I own and I always advise just the one I am using Hon
.
PS. I never give her the combination to my gun safes :).

Blessinsgs,
Dan

I need to get my wife on the forums, I doubt it would change her mind but she's still a bit grumbly every now and then about the 2 rifles her brother is building me. I will have 4 rifles in my safe... but maybe if she read about some of the real dilemmas in life (which gun you should buy first with your discount) she would ease up on my small collection

Don't bet on it!

Don't bet on it, Tim! Wives can be very unpredictable. What you need to do, of course, is get her shooting. The downside of that is that wives almost always have good taste (they married us, didn't they?), and they'll go after the one rifle we can't stand to part with.

my rifles are safe...she is left eye dominate. Just waiting for things to settle down here in NY, then filing my paperwork for my pistol permit.

She enjoyed shooting with her brother when we were in Alaska and purple is her favorite color so when I get my permit thinking of picking up the Ruger SR22 in the lilac color for her if we can find one for her to handle and see how she likes it.... So actually will use her as my excuse for more guns and get her shooting something with me at least

I remember reading somewhere that it's a lazy man who can't find his wife a second job.....

Gotta go.... Quick.... my wife's coming.

I worked at Oshman's Sporting Goods in LA California when I was divorced, working another job and had no social life. I usually just spent about what I made in salary and commissions each month. They would only let me buy one gun a month, so, I bought scopes and stuff.

I've been thinking about getting a second job (wow, this is gonna sound like Charlie's post). Recently divorced, not much going on socially. Could be Sportsman's Warehouse, could be Fisherman's Marine & Outdoor, could be Home Depot.

I could see me dropping a couple of $K on power tools at HD...

On the other hand, I hate dealing with the general public...

Kurt, I got them to promise me that I would do only fishing and shooting. They had a large, well stocked gun department and working 15 hours a week, I sold more than any other salesman in the store almost every month. It helps to know something about what you are selling.

Good idea, Charlie. I'll look into it, though I keep hearing my primary job is going to get busy soon. I'd rather make time-and-a-half there than $12-15 an hour at a big box.
