Ordered the reamer today. Have the donor. Barrel is inbound. Building it on a CRF Win 70 and dropping it into a McMillan stock. Hope to keep it at 8.5lbs. Planning on shooting the 142LRAB.

Should be an awesome rifle! Love the idea of a custom built on a Model 70 CRF, and sounds like an interesting cartridge too.

Sounding like a nice build up are you going to share some more specs re your new project?

That particular cartridge has much to recommend it to WSM aficionados. Should be a fascinating build, Scott.

LOVE IT!

very cool, can't wait to see that build come together. The world of 6.5 mm bullets is just huge. There are so many options out there.

Way to go Scott. When I first shot Joel's I was really impressed with it. Easy to work with and really hammers above its weight class. Can't beat the tough WSM brass either.

That sounds really cool. I can't wait to see what it looks like. Have you figured out the scope you are going to stick on it??

Should be a dead ringer of a 264 WM. The 6.5 WSM is a fascinating round along with the 6.5 SAUM.

Thanks guys,
I'm using a Benchmark #3 with a 1 in 8 twist. Going to leave it long at 26". I have a M70 in 270WSM that has a 3.040 mag box so I'll have it throated long. Since I have 250 brass and lots of 6.5 bullets for my Creedmoor I'm half way there. I'm planning on using one of my Leupold VX3 LR 4.5x14s with the TS-X32moa reticle. The stock will be a McMillan HTG/M40 style. Should be able to push the 140s to 3200+fps(400fps faster than the Creedmore). I would have done the 6.5SAUM but between having the brass and having the M70 platform the 6.5WSM seemed to be a better fit. I plan on using the 270 sizing die as a body die and all I'll need will be 6.5 neck die. I can seat bullets with the Creedmoor seater. So I'll be able to do this on the "cheap". I will buy specific dies later. I should have it back from the smith later this spring. I'll keep you posted on load development.

There is a guy on Accurate Shooter that converts dies to bushing dies. You wouldn't need a neck die if you converted your 270 die or bought a Redding type S die.

Good point Nathan,
A type "S" bushing die with the bushing and expander changed out would work just fine.

I have a set of Lee dies in 6.5-300wsm. They were a standard offering at one time. I'm not sure if that is the case now or not.

Found a set and have them on the way. That's a whole lot less than a set of "S" Type.
Thanks Nathan

I received my new Lee 6.5x300WSM dies the other day. First Lee dies for me. Great deal for $32! I promptly resized all my brass and built several dummy rounds. The 142gr LRAB seated at 3.040" puts the bottom of the bearing surface at the bottom of the neck. Just about perfect. Three dummies cycled perfectly from magazine to chamber. Looking good so far. Barrel and reamer will be here tomorrow and Wednesday. I like it when a plan comes together!
