Reported on Fox News this morning. What is it? And what the heck is on that tip?

June 23: A new round replaces the current M855 5.56mm cartridge that has been used by U.S. troops since the early 1980s. The M855A1 offers a number of significant enhancements: improved hard target capability, increased dependability, consistent performance at all distances, improved accuracy, reduced muzzle flash and a higher velocity. It's tailored for use in the M-4 but also improves the performance of the M-16 and M-249 families of weapons.

Come to think of it - I like the Marines new round better. Out of a 14" barrel is is doing 2925fps

Just found out it is a lead free green bullet. Better for the environment and pack a better punch. I'm sure the terrorist will be happy. Wonder if this is one of those Pelosi's ideas

less chance of a Taliban dieing from lead poisoning.

The green tip is the painted steel penetrator. The rest is a bisthmis/tin alloy with a copper jacket. That picture is of the most recent failure since the program started in 1996. It has a problem falling apart in high heat....hmmm guess that would be like using a .22 scattergun...

The marines have the right idea. An open tip, lead core, bonded bullet. It's a green bullet only in the respect that it will be much better at killing bad guys and saving the lives of our boys in uniform.

That marine round looks like it would open up real nice and leave a lifetime memory for an enemy combatant. About 5 minutes 8)
You know a 338 cal. 225 gr. version of that just might work on elk

YES!!!! That bullet is a Trophy Bonded Bear Claw with grooves to relieve pressure and increase velocity. Federal is the one making the bullet and loading the ammo for the Marines.
