Well, I just won a Savage mod 11GCNS in 308 Win. Now I need to figure out what to do with it, probably load up some of my 150 or 165ABs.

Well, a burden perhaps but I could figure out "what to do with it" if I tried real hard. :) Lucky $%%^ CL

Indeed, you have a dilemma. You know that the .308 isn't good for anything. It won't kill a deer or a moose. You can't shoot straight with those things. I'd think you'll be forced to give it away, since no one would buy one.

Congratulations!

won it where, SCI, mule deer foundation, RMEF ? Its aways fun to win rifles and shotguns

Some people have all the luck  how bout you send it my way Ill figure out what to do with it  .

Just to keep the comedy going here, since most of your experience is with the big RUMS, you might as well send it to one of us that is used to using the light -weight calibers for hunting

Varget and RL15 both work well for me with the bullet weights you are thinking about. They give similar velocities, with RL15 usually getting the nod due to being a non-compressed load. Enjoy

Rich,

Congratulations on the Savage 308 Win! 8)

Take a look at Varget and RL 15.

Won it on Bivwak, so I still have to pay for it.

Yes, I do like my RUMs, but its also nice to have a lighter weight big game caliber to go out and shoot and to practice my shooting form, trigger squeeze and so on.

Here's what I enjoy doing with a Model 10 Savage in .308Win.
The rifle has surpassed 1500 rounds being fired and I am still enjoying trying various components in order to get good groups. If my eyes were as they were 40 years ago, I could do better, but glaucoma has robbed me of a some sight and the VA has done wonders at helping me keep what I do have. I thank God, that at 67 years of age, I am still toting rilfes to the range and to hunts and doing my share to rid the world of targets not bearing holes!
The latter day Savage rifles are among the best, in terms of value and all around accuracy, right out of the box!

Been thinking about this, I may just try out some of my 150ET and see what I get, hopefully a little cloverleaf and maybe around 2900FPS.

The rifle showed up today and Savage didn't disappoint. Now I have to wait 10 days  due to Kalifornia. Now if my brass would just show up.

May this be your LAST 10 day wait!

The beautiful thing about the .308 cartridge is that it will absorb almost any mix of appropriate components and shoot well. My wife's mod 10 is especially fond of 150 grain bullets. Seated near the lands it shoots sub-moa with H bl-c2, IMR 4320, Viht. N140 and IMR 4064. Bullets tried include Hor 150 SSt, Speer 150 SP, Rem 150 SP, Nos. 155 BTHP, Nos 168 BTHP and WCC/Olin 147 FMJ. I haven't really tweaked for cloverleafs, this is just a deer rifle, but I would be happy with the accuracy of all for hunting purposes. The Rem 150 sp makes a fine economical practice and hunting bullet for this round and they usually shoot quite well. I like H-BLC2 the best in this caliber as it meters oh so nicely.
