Well, here she is. A Rem. 700 with a Timney trigger and a stainless 26" Benchmark, 3 groove, 9 twist, fluted sendero conture barrel. I bedded it into a HS A-2 with red webbing (Darrin did the webbing for me). Topped with a VX-III 6.5-20x50 LR with a new TMR. The rifle was built by Darrin Blagg (Blagg Rifles) in Pendleton. He made my 270 WSM as well, and it is showing a ton of promis, so I expect great things from this STW.

This is to replace the 338 Edge for my LR target/hunting rifle. Scoped up it weighs 11.25 lbs. Thinking it will be right around 12lbs ready to hunt. I went this route so that I could do away with the brake. I can't stand them. They make shooting nice, but man are they LOUD!

I can't wait to get her broke in this weekend. Should have all my brass neck turned, flash hole deburred, FL sized, trimmed, and weight sorted by tomorrow night. I'll load up some 140 BTs for break in, then some 160 ABs, and 168 VLDs and see what I can get for groups. ATM and I are planning on a big range day this coming weekend. Doing some load work with the 270 WSM and Retumbo, and breaking in the STW. Should be a great day!

You surely won't need a brake with that rig! It is interesting, however. I'll be watching for the range results. They should be satisfying. What bullet are you focused on for your rifle? My hunting partner carries a 7 STW, loaded with 160 grain ABs. It is very accurate and drops game of all sizes with real authority. We were hitting rocks at 700 yards, shooting off the hood of the truck this past fall.

VX III or VX3?

Looks like quite a rig! Should shoot like a house afire.

Do you have Mr Blagg's contact info?

VX-III. It came with a varmit hunter reticel, but i have always wamted a TMR.

BK- pm inbound.

Thats a very nice looking rifle. Can't wait to see it shoot. What bullet are you going to focus on ?

Right now I'm looking hard at the 160 AB. But I have not ruled out the 168 VLD or 162 A-Max.

Jake,

Very nice rig! Looking forward to your range report.

Got it! Thanks, man!

I've had a couple STW's and they are deadly. Never had one made, but I'm shooting a Classic LT now, and when it needs it I'll rebuild it. The other 2 were those damm Remingtons.

That's a serious long range machine you got there. Just looked at Nosler's book looks like 3200 fps is quite possible with the 160's, it's kinda like a 264 Win Mag + P with a load like that.

Looks good!! Can't wait for range results, I like the fact you have no qualms with a rifle with some weight behind it. This emphasis in the last few years on lightweight is ,for an average hunt, hogwash. If your after sheep or goats in steep terrain where your whole camp is on your back I see lightweight rifle as a huge asset. For me I ussually hunt from a blind or an outpost on a field edge, or over looking a coulee to carry it say even half a mile and back is a non issue. I done 2 hikes this year in a river system trying to locate a good muley for my Dad, both were 4 miles down and 4 miles back with a 10 lb rifle and a day pack. There is definitley some steep hills , but not once did I say boy if my rifle were only 3 lbs lighter.. Too each there own I guess there may come a time when that 3 lbs is worth it for me,, just not yet.

Thanks guys. I'm going to have a really hard time spotting game when I'm hunting with this rifle, I can't stop staring at it  I got the bedding all cleaned up lastnight, and some brass ready to load. Hoping to get 15 140 BTs loaded up today at lunch so if I get a break in the weather I can start getting it broke in.

This rifle will by no means, be my everyday hunting rifle. I really like the way my 270 WSM feels at just over 8 lbs, and if I can ever get my 338 WM tuned up right, it feels pretty good at just over 9 lbs. There are a few spots though that I hunt that this STW will be the dedicated rifle for. If we are doing a hunt were there is lots of walking through "good country" that a guy could jump something at 40 yards or 400 yards then I'll take the lighter, more handy rifles. If I'm hunting ridge tops and glassing a ton of country, the STW will get the nod.

I would feel bad for the others if only one gun got all the action
