No load development...

I'm enjoying all these posts about hunting loads being developed by so many people on the board. Love it!

Then I trudged on over to the Rockchucker and churned out another 50 .30-06 cartridges, and another 20 .375 cartridges. Same old loads. Again. Sigh... No fun. Hah!

It's kind of funny, I enjoy load development, but here we are, my youngest son and me, almost ready to head out on our bear hunt and there's not a thing new... The rifles are the same as last time, the ammo is the same as last time.

Oh, wait! I did swap his .30-06 load to 165 gr Partitions instead of the older Nosler Solid Base bullets he's been using the past few years. Wow! Huge change there by golly...

Anyway, it's off to the range for a little practice with the same ol' rifles and the same ol' ammo.

.30-06:
58 gr H4350, 165 gr Nosler Partition, CCI 200, about 2750 fps from the old 21" cut down military barrel.

.375 H&H:
69 gr RL-15, 260 gr Nosler AccuBond, Fed 215, about 2620 fps from the Number One

Nothing new here. Move along. Nothing to see. Except a couple of real good loads that have proven themselves at the range and in the field.

Ah, practice time now, and bear hunting looms on the horizon! Cool.

Guy,
I love the same old boring loads. LOL You and I both know when the moment of truth arrives there's comfort in knowing that good old faithful load is going to put meat in the freezer!

I agree, I haven't developed a load in a number of years. All my rifles are set up and I don't see the need change what works and what I'm familiar with. I thought about giving the new long range ABs a try, but then went back to what I just said, why change when what I have works for my needs.

Guy,
Development is fun, I agree.
I agree with Dr Mike though about comfort in the tried and true. (Haven't got that quote box thing down yet, sorry!)
You still get to shoot them though!
I have a few I don't mess with. I have them where I like them. Check them, make sure they're still good, and go hunt.
I just keep buying new toys. Don't know if its the rifles themselves or the fun of working them up or some quest for "rifle nirvana".
Please take some of those terrific photos on your hunt. I always enjoy them and you have a talent there.

Good to have the No. 1 to tie you over until the Model 70 is spooled up... Put that way, the rest of us should run out and grab a couple of .375s as well! Have a great time with your boy at the range!

That's great stuff Guy. I dig that old 30-06 of yours. It's so cool to see that rifle in the field, slaying animals!
