Washington has a short pheasant season in September for hunters who are 65+ years old or disabled. It runs 16-20 Sept this year. I got out this morning with the dog, shotgun and camera. No pheasants were found - which didn't surprise me - but it was a nice walk with a good gun and my dog got to run off leash and got to hunt. He loves that. He's exhausted at my feet right now. A tired hunting dog is a good dog.
I was hunting with my roughly 90 year old 12 gauge Remington 32 over and under using Bismuth shells out of deference to the old barrels. Life is better when hunting with a good gun!
Fortunately I elected to bring the camera and telephoto lens along! Turns out some rut activity has started and the bighorn sheep are getting frisky.
The ram is pretty young, but he was the biggest one with the batch of ewes. I suspect that in the next few weeks, the big boys will make their appearance and assert their dominance.
