Hunting went great... Sam (14 & my youngest of two daughters) & I had a awesome time together. Sat in several spots/blinds over tha past couple days, saw an average of 30-40 deer each time out, but pretty much all beyond 400 yds. Watched skunks, badgers, got hollered/barked at by a yote early sunday morning in the dark and scared the crap outta me and the kid. Walking thru a field at 0600, pitch dark and have a dog let go at ya from 30-50yds kinda wakes ya up...

Ok, last stand for the night (Sunday) we are in the "Space Needle" stand (a stand on top of 4 telephone poles) and had not seen any deer for 4 hours. Finally we see a doe, fawn and a buck following, but a 1/2 mile away and only 10 minutes legal shooting light left. But, the deer were coming our way and then about half way the doe turns north, crapola there goes our last chance for the day... So I kinda scanned around a bit, then Sam goes, hey Dad, theres the deer.. Here comes the little buck that was following the doe and apparently it was an invervention of an higher power, because there was no reason for him to come towards us.. Anyways, 2 minutes legal shooting light, I ranged him at 320. I decided to let her shoot if he provides a standing shot at 200yds max. At 1 minute of legal light left, he hits the 200 mark. I said to Sam, if I can stop him and you feel good about the shot, take it. I grunted, he stopped, she shot, a little too far back, I said take your time and hit him again. She collected herself great and smoked him right thru the chest, bang - flop.. It was awesome. I had her shooting my 257AI and its a great little tack driver and zeroed at 200 And I have had Sam shooting since she was 5-6 and knew she was capable. Good shooting. No Doubt it was a Nosler 100gr BT that Sam was shooting!!

Not the biggest buck, but definatly a trophy to us both. And she cant wait til next yr and I kinda think I lost my 257 as she thinks its the best one now... She was high on adreneline for awhile (me too). She helped gut it, I butchered it moreless. My headlamp was cold and only got the green led to shine bright and I found out, green make all blood and guts black... It was great and I could go on & on...

Thanks for reading and my deer is the smaller one with the excessive hair... But Sam got hers and thats all that matters to me.

That is totally awesome indeed and we are proud her as well. Thanks for sharing the story and pictures. That is great

What a great hunt. Congrats to Sam on her deer. She did real well and made her dad real proud to boot. It just don't get any better than that.

Nodak...hope you didn't eat yours!
Great job to your daughter, and to you as the guide. Every time I see someone passing down the hunting tradition, it makes to look to the future to the time I will pass it on to my boys. My 2 year old already says he wants to "go hunting with daddy." But I have a policy of no diapers when I'm hunting, so I guess he will have to wait a few months.
Congrats!!!!!!!

Congratulations! to you and your daughter. I know the feeling you have, as my son got his first this year. I still talk about it more than him.
Great shot and great read!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the kind words and yes, we are still pumped and she is already talking next year...

Froggy, regarding my deer, I thought about pulling the tenderloins but decided to keep it all for sausage....

Well done NoDak and congrats to Sam as well!! Wish my daughter were willing. Well done. That is a great calibre- no wonder she wants to hang on to it. I shoot a 250-3000 Savage myself. You could have Savage build you another one since she likes yours so much?! :) CL
