Norma MRP

Norma has tried several times to market their wares in North America. I believe they have made a good move by going with Western Powders. There are some excellent powders in their lineup.

Thanks!
Looks like it might fit the new additions.

Yeah, without a DOUBT! MRP and MRP2 should be EXCELLENT for your newest additions..

MRP is a versatile powder, from Norma's data it looks really good in the 260 Rem. Whenever we get one of the 270's (a Win, WSM or Wby) looks like it will perform well in any of them, ditto the 280 Rem and 7X64. Naturally it performs great in most of the common magnum cartridges as well. Hopefully I can pick some up in the summer.

It would be great if Western goes to the expense to export the Norma line into Canada, Gerry. There are several of the Norma powders that I've wanted to try.

This place used to be able to get it, they said it might be a possibility to get it a month or two ago. I'll contact them in the summer again, spending way too much lately.

Hmmmm. Grimshaw isn't far from here. I might have to take a drive over there one day. Good intel, Gerry. Because Norma will now be packaged by Western Powders, that means that Western has to apply to ship each powder into Canada. It is $10,000 per powder to test just to meet the requirements for Canada. This is the reason certain Accurate and Ramshot powders are not available in Canada.

I would be nice if we could get those powders here, stupid politicians and all their dumb rules  Over all I'm happy with using mostly Hodgdon powders along with a bit of Ramshot but definitely want to try MRP again, it was very good in the 308 Norma Mag I once had and is great in a lot of different rounds. Hope we can try it again soon.

I have used MRP but it was so long ago that I have no idea about loads. I just remember that it was slower than IMR 4831 (the military stuff). It was expensive back then and hard to find, so I used IMR 4831 at $1.75 a pound.

With Westerns marketing net work maybe the price will be in line with other powders. Looking forward to comparing it to RL22.

Norma MRP is the most versatile powder ever made, great stuff, works for so many cartridges and will give great velocities. If I could get a hold of it more readily I would use more often than I do.

If you're loading Alliant Reloder series powders you're already using Norma powders. They are all made by Nammo in Sweden.

Yes they are all made in Sweden, but MRP is not quiet the Same as RL-22 even though they are made in Sweden. Example Q/L has the near max load for 60,000psi with MRP using 62.2grs and RL-22 using 60.3 for near max loads. I know some think they are the exact same powder but they are not and there are many other examples of them not being the same charge for other cartridges and bullets. Nothing is just like MRP, been using it for 30 years now and it is kind of in a class all its own, an outstanding versatile powder and lot to lot is so consistent, not like some lots of RL-22

Overhere I have used Norma for many years, but it is becomming too f§!"#¤% expensive. I went for a powder called RHINO which is also made at BOFORS, Sweden just as Norma. RHINO 22 was ½ price of Norma MRP and it was 100% the same product. Then RHINO was closed(shut down) of some unknown reason(we do suspect Norma to have had an influence on this) so my last canister is RHINO is yet to be used but my next powder will become Vithavouri.

I for one do not care how expensive it gets (really, I don't) because in some cartridges and with some bullets and powders, it gives me equal to better accuracy as some of my other favorite powders but always gives me more velocity for the same amount of chamber pressure. I also like Rl-22 but buy it in 8 pound canisters so I have it from the same lot and once I make my load adjustment from the previous lot of RL-22 I am good to go. In fact RL-22 and MRP will be tested in the morning or Monday morning with 180gr CT BT, Seirra Pro Hunter spitzer and Speer 180gr RN Hot Core. in my 30-06
