Here are a few pics of my buddy's 6x6 elk he got on the weekend- his first ever Bull Elk. I was sure glad to share this with him. He missed coming out for moose camp this year but made it up to visit and go out for elk. I had better get a tenderloin dinner  when my family goes to visit his in February when I go down to play in an Old Timers hockey tournament with his team.
The bull was taken at 220 metres with 2 shots from a 7mm RM using factory 160gr Accubonds-back part of the lungs-complete pass thru. I never seen the elk as I was set up about 400 metres away below in a low spot in the field. The bull went into the timber about 100 metres. Good thing he dropped before making it to the valley edge. After we dressed out the bull, we used a quad to drag the bull out to the truck. Huge body on this bull. Estimated dressed out weight about 550 lbs. Probably due to eating alfalfa and oats its whole life from the farm fields. The hay bails are sure getting destroyed now-the ones left in the fields. The elk are not dumb. Why work thru the snow to get at the alfalfa when they can just eat the bails first.
This is the same field I could of taken a nice 5x5 on opening evening of the rifle season-called him right in to 20 metres, but my brotherinlaw said they had seen 2 larger bulls - so I still have an empty freezer
My buddy and I went back to the same area the next morning and had about 50 elk out, but the larger 6x6 bull went into the timber before legal light. At least we didnt spook them because the wind was also swirlling, so I will be back there hopefully before this weekend again.
If not, a 180+BC Whitetail would be nice.
