Nosler 180 Accubonds in 30-06

This afternoon I cleaned my Rem 700CDL in 30-06 (left hand) and pulled out my Sinclair Comparator and followed the instructions to measure my cartridge OAL to the lands.. I came up with 3.458" using the 180 Accubonds.. My handloads are running 3.356" +/- for tip variations.

This leaves my 0.102" off the lands with the Accubonds, over 61 grains of Reloder 22, WLR primer and Nosler cases. I get reasonable groups when discounting my fliers... and velocity runs 2,700+ fps @ 37 degrees F.

I have re-read Dan Newberry's OCW method and will be running a test in the next few days, weather permitting.

Does anyone else load the 180 AccuBond in a 30-06 and if so what OAL or jump to the lands are you using? All thoughts and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Rol

Personally I like to start .020" off the lands IF my magazine will allow me to get that close.
Otherwise I start at Max magazine length and work back in .030 increments.
I have a tikka 300 win mag that's put 5 shots under an inch at 300 yds and because of freebore the jump was over .100".

I'd run the test at ~3.34 (OAL...tip to base)...find the OCW load, then redo the test for seating depth using the OCW load.

This is how I do it as well. I have had great luck with the AB's shooting better around the .040-.075 off the rifling, but have gone pretty far back and still done well.

I'll be very interested in seeing how your ladder works out.

Rol, I don't have my notes in front of me, but for 30-06 with Ramshot Hunter I initially got good results ~0.02 off the lands. Groups were inconsistent through all weather conditions, though, and I switched to H4350. Then Partitions shot better than ABs, so I went with the PTs.

I hope to find a good load for the ABs soon enough. I will start them 0.03 off the lands whenever I get back to it, and seat deeper from there.
