Nosler Brass - .270 Winchester loads

Question for POP or JD:

I have a current load for my .270 Winchester using Remington Brass, 130 grain Nosler Partition, CCI 200 primer and 60.0 grains of RL 22.

I just bought some Nosler Brass and was wondering what I should expect with this load in Nosler Brass versus Remington. I have seen POP (and several others) reference 60.0 grains of RL 22 for 130grain bullets in .270 Winchester on several threads and it shoots sub MOA with Remington Brass in my rifle, but since it is over max load, where should I start with Nosler Brass and what increments should I increase by, or should I try 60.0 grains of RL 22?

Thanks,
Mark

I think most will drop about 5% and work back up in 1 gr steps watching for pressure signs as you go. (That`s the book way)
Personally I`d drop a couple grs in 5 cartridges and chrono the result. If the velocities are similar, and no pressure signs appear, I`d go 1/2 way back to your 60 gr load and try another 5 rds again. If the velocities still seem to follow the old loads velocity pattern I`d then go right to the old load and see if accuracy and velocity was still good.

60 gr of H4831 or Rl22 with 130 gr is my old standby. However as noted before always drop a couple of grains when changing any components. I do not know what the capacity of the Nosler brass is as opposed to others.

Mark,

I agree with the others, drop back and work up.
FWIW, I switched from Rem to Nosler brass in my 280AI and got very similar velocity with 2 grs less powder. Also get better accuracy too.

Thanks for your results JD338, I will drop a few grains and chrono my results.

I've been loading and chronographing .270 Win for years. My standby is Winchester brass, H4831, and Nosler Seconds. I've found that dropping back one grain with RP brass, and two grains with resized military brass produces the same velocity. Anytime I load virgin brass I drop back one grain for the first firing. Considering that nosler brass is supposed to be on the thick side, with a virgin box I'd drop back 5 or 6 grains, work up, Chronograph and compare to your control loads.

Glad to help. Let us know your results.
You should also give the 130 gr AB a try. Its an awesome bullet.
