I just purchased the fifth edition reloading manual. I looked up a .44 Mag load with the 240 Gr. JSP bullet. The manual lists the different powders, velocities, etc. I don't see a COL listed. I see a SAMMI Max but thats it. How do we know the COL's that the different bullets were tested?

The Nosler manual doesn't give OAL's for any of its loads....don't know why.

The Lyman 48th edition gives OAL for 240 gr Sierra JHC as 1.610"

The Speer # 13 manual lists the following OAL's for 240 gr bullets
240 gr Speer Mag JHP = 1.575"
240 gr Speer Mag JSP = 1.575"
240 gr Speer TMJ-Sil = 1.675"

The Lee 2nd edition lists the OAL's for 240 gr jacketed bullets at 1.535" to 1.602" (depending on the powder used) Let me know what powders you want to load and I'll look up the OAL for you.

Blaine:

Thanks for the offer. I dug out an old Midway Load Map that I have and it suggests a COL of 1.595" I've used AA #9 for years but am planning on working up a load with H110 and WLP primers.

WE shooter,

The OAL for AA #9 is listed as 1.560" (powder charge of 19.1 to 21.3 grs)

The OAL for H110 is listed as 1.600" (powder charge of 23.0 to 24.0 grs)

I assume you meant WLR primers?
