On Noslers site today I noticed some RN solid base bullets in .358. I bought four boxes as I have always been a fan of the old Solid base bullets. This is the first I have seen of them, anyone else notice them in loaded ammo? Any load data out there from Nosler? I know I can start where I want for my Whelen witch would be around 2400 fps using I3031.

That’s the bullet they are putting in their Whitetail Country 35 Remington ammo. I would think it would work in the Whelen as long as it’s not pushed too fast?

I haven't bought factory ammo for a long time and have been running cast in my 35 Remington. I did sell it a couple months ago though.

Well here it is. Muzzle velocity 2025 fps. Jugs set at 100 yards. Used 5 for the cast bullet and recovered it in the 5th jug. very nice expansion. The Nosler bullet lost it's core but it did penetrate all four jugs, all I had for the test. Found the jacket on the ground behind the jugs. Cast bullet was cast in a LEE mold that copies the RCBS flat nosed 200 gr. bullet, powder coated and of 50/50 pure lead and wheel weights. The Nosler 200 gr. RN 35 Remington bullet jacket pictured.
Shot at 100 yards. 200 gr. LEE cast from 50/50 WW and pure lead. Destroyed the first two jugs, split third and expanded bullet diameter through 4th jug ending up in the 5th jug.
The jacket is from a 200 grain Nosler Solid base bullet made for the 35 Remington. Both were jug tested the same way and with the same power charge. 31.0 grs. of I4227 in a 35 Whelen. The core from the Solid base bullet was not recovered. The cast bullet weighs 194.2 grains and the jacket from the solid base weighs 102.4 grains.
Have to say though that the 4 jugs the solid base bullet went through looked a lot like the first four the cast bullet went through.

The few cast bullets I’ve tried to catch never expand that much.
Nice expansion on the Nosler , to bad the core was lost.

The jacket had some corrosion inside it. I figure that is why the core took off. Too bad I didn't have 5 jugs though.

Do believe that Nosler would get a deer's attention. Would like to see how it behaves in a Whelen doing about 2500-2600fps. Haven't shot many 200gr RN in my Whelen mostly in the 35 Rem.
