1st posting on this forum . . .
I target shoot at 100 yards, and use different caliber rifles from .222 up to 300 win mag. On every rifle, I have gotten the best accuracy with Sierra Matchkings or berger match. Never tried Nosler bullets.
Picked up a 25-06 recently with 1 in 10" twist. Also bought some nosler bullets over ebay. One of the bullets is 85 gr ballistic tip. . . . and from what I read on the forum, it should shoot well.
The other box of bullets is a box of solid base bt 100 gr Spitzer 30402.
Looks like a ballistic tip except with pointed lead. I have never gotten good accuracy with a spitzer. Does anyone have any experience with the Nosler solid base spitzers. I would guess that they probably would not be as good as the ballistic tip or a hollow point. Trying to decide whether to load them up or sell them. Looking for accuracy at 1/2" per 5 per 100yds . . . or less on a calm day. This 25-06 should do that.

I've never shot Noslers solid base, but I have shot just about eveyrthing else out of the 2 I've owned over the years. Just remember this, NOsler makes accurate bullets, no matter what version they are. The 85g NBT you bought will make a great coyote/varmint bullet, and I guess you could use it for deer if you knew your shot wasn't going to be 100 yards or less. You can get them going upwards of 3600fps with great accuracy. Mine loved 57g RL-19 for 3600fps and .5" groups at 100 yards. I have a few loads with 100g NBT that are hovering 3350-3400fps with IMR4350/4831 powder and shooting anywhere from .5-.75" MOA. The solid base might not shoot as good as the plastic tipped bullets, but I"m betting you can still achieve at least a good 3/4" 5 shot group at 100 yards, if thats not good enough for hunting, I dont know what is. About the only lead tipped bullet I've shot much is the Sierra Gamekings. They have always been a very accurate bullet for me out of my rifles. I"ve never shot to much game with them though as I use them more of a practice bullet since there cheaper then Noslers.

BTW, what kinda 25-06 did you come across??

Mine is a winchester classic model 70 w/6-18 leupold. Shes a shooter!!

Should you decide to sell those old solid base spitzers, just let me know. They have been out of production for some time now and are hard to find.

They are great hunting bullets, but I doubt they will beat Sierra's or Berger's for accuracy.

You state you have not had much luck with lead tipped bullets, but I have shot two groups in as many weeks from my 25-06 using 100 grain Sierra flat base spitzers
(lead tipped) that both measured 0.37 inches at 100 yards.
