I have loads using WW748, IMR4320, IMR4895, Varget, Accurate 2495, use a 225gr Sierra SBT and all I need is my rifle. :) I am a little anxious to get started but it will all happen sometime the end of next week.

Nice picture bullet.

Thanks, when I get some 225gr Nosler Partitions which are next to try I will make a picture of it also. Cool looking little bullet with a lot of thump. I think I will call my 358Win "Mr. Magic" I just got a feeling this little thumper of a round will be a real game getter and bring some magic to my hunting.

Do you set those up in front of a mirror in the dark, or do you use a backlight?

Your pictures amaze me Mike!

I have shot one antelope with 748 and the 225 Sierra in a BLR. Damage was massive, too massive for a heavy bullet. Lung shot at 150 yards or so. I would not use it on bear or elk but for deer should fair well.

Bullet,

I've had great success with Benchmark, Varget, 10X and TAC and the 225 Sierra. W748 appears to be the powder for the 225 Partition in my rifle.

POP,

I have witnesed massive damage on black bear with Sierras used in fast cartridges, but I've not seen extensive damge with the 358 or the 356. Did the bullet hit a rib and violently expand?

It was like I hit her with a 220 swift in the ribcage. It did he job but I was expecting more big game bullet performance.

maye there wasn't enough body weight to cause the bullet to perform the same?

POP,

All I can say is "Wow!" Nevertheless, it should be a good bullet on black bear and moose. At the moment, I am focused on 200 grain TSX and 225 grain Partition. Both are giving excellent velocities and good groups, both in my BLR and in my Hawkeye.

I set up in a small room use two kinds of lighting and a dark back ground and it takes a while to get the lighting just right. I do not use a mirror for the back lighting effect. I bounce light and the timing creates the effect plus I use an Cannon EOS D with Micro setting.

The 358Win will more than take bear or moose. The reason I even got it for thick stuff and game up close including black bear and elk in wooded areas is that a friend of mine is a professional guide and he carries one and uses it on Grizzly, black bear, moose and deer. He drops all of them and uses the 225gr Partition to drop heavy mean stuff and the 225gr Game King on deer. I ask him but what if you run into a bear with the Game King while hunting deer. He said, I killed one with the game king but prefer the 225gr Partition. I take his word for it since he has been caring his 358Win for a little over 20yrs. He loves his. I will have no fear launching a 225gr at anything.

Now I have drop a black bear with a 225gr Game king out of a Remington CDL in 35 Whelen as well as large hog. I know I can trust the 225gr Partition to do it's job if the game king can do it. So respectfully, the 358win is big game medicine and the old boys like Ken waters and others thought the same. I know one thing for sure, I will personally over the next two years find out.

Bullet,

The 358 is certainly capable of killing black bears and grizzlies. I have used the 356 on grizzlies, and it worked just fine. I have used the 358 on bison, and the 356 has taken elk and mule deer for me. There is no question but that the 358 is capable of taking bears. I think your friend is correct when he says that he prefers the Partition on black bears. My reaction was to the damage POP described on antelope. I would have thought that the Game King would have caused less damage at the velocities generated by a 358.

Like I said. The 200 TSX or the 225 NP is the kitty's buttocks!

Hay dose anyone crimp the partitions?

I use the lee FC die for the 200gr spire points simply because it has a cannelure. I also lightly crimped the partitions with it to. Is this nessasary?

I shot loads from .035" to .015" and at .020" hit my best group with 46.5grs of H4895 but is like 2.0" and I have done 5/8" with the 200gr and just 46.0grs of H4895. This spring I work up from 46.0 to 48.0grs to find another sweet spot for the 200gr bullets.

tjen,

I generally crimp all my loads in the 358. I can't say that groups are tighter or even more consistent. I do it because I have the Lee FC die, which I originally bought to use on the 356. I suppose it is justification enough.

I haven't had much luck with H4895. IMR4895 (maximum charge of 50 grains) gives me good velocities and groups with 225 grain TSX.

I crimp nothing at all, ever unless they seat in a handgun or a tubular magazine in a lever.

+1 here also, I agree with POP

+2 I never crimp my Whelen, and I would think that it'll buck a little harder than a .358, unless the .358 is a LOT lighter.
