Odd problem with brass

Ok so I bought a new remm 700 22-250 the last week. Before I bought that I had a ruger model 77 same caliber. I already have about 300 rounds loaded up for it so I figured I'd shoot them first then work up a load for the new gun. Problem is the reloads using remington brass will not fit in the gun! Reloads using hornady and federal brass will. Before you say it's because the ruger had a different sized chamber, Know that I used a full length sizer and the brass is trimmed to proper length. I checked oal with my hornady lock-n-load bullet comparator. All rounds are same size within 0.002" and the brass is the same length. What is the deal? Does my remington gun not like rem brass? I'm confused on this one.

I'm betting the brass that won't fit will "almost" let you close the bolt but not quite?

I suspect you have some brass that was not sized as fully as others. This is either due to different alloy, number of firings, or whatever, but the root cause is the shoulder is too far forward on this particular brass. It doesn't happen to be nickel plated brass, does it? That might be part of the problem. I hate to say it, but you're likely looking at pulling the bullets, dumping the powder, and resizing the cases without a decapper pin in the die in order to shoot them in your new rifle.

Also, please note that if you had these loads worked up in the old rifle, and they are close to max, they could well be over max for your new rifle, and thus not safe to shoot anyway. Safety First!

Thanks for the info. I can't even get the bolt to begin to close. Is regular brass and all three makes have been fired 3 times. They are not max loads as I usually don't load to the max so they should be safe. I didn't even think about removing the decapping pin! I figured I'd have to knock all the primers out. Thanks for the tip.

Rem brass is probably harder so springing back more, try annealing a fired rem case, then resize it and try it.

I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW!!!!! PICK ME !!! PICK ME!!!!!!

case head expansion!

The suspect cases were fired three times in a ruger 77..... correct?
said ruger was a CRF..... correct?
new remington is a push-feed....... correct?

Theory: the ruger allowed for case head expansion, due to the design of the bolt-face/chamber relationship. the different design of the rem surrounds the case head..... and it dont wanna fit!
Full length sizing does not always correct the case head dimension. This happened to me on a 243...... remington brass swelled about .002 per firing and never got sized down (maybe it did but it sprung back) after the fourth or fifth firing they would not chamber after sizing and I'd chuck them. winchester brass is currently on it's 8th firing and still going strong!

A softer case head might be the difference...... but please DO NOT anneal the case head

Sell the affected ammo, or save it for a different gun. Aint worth pulling bullets IMHO

Thanks guys i figured i'd just get rid of the old brass and start new with the new gun.

I had this problem recently and i ended up running it through the full length without the decapper pin and it fixed my problem

Did you full length resize? If so then yes, there is a big diff in the web of the brass which will not be resized by the flr die.
