as some of you know i just bedded the action of my Rem. 700 in 30/06
the bedding job looks fine but now im noticeing that the bolt is hanging up sometimes,, is there any reason that the bedding job would cause this ???
i did put some rounds in her just to make sure they cycle correctly and they do,, im hopeing that its just cause theres no oil on the metal parts as of yet,, shes getting a good copper scrubing in hopes of shooting some small groups due to the new bedding

There's bedding touching somewhere...now for the hard part, figuring out just where. Once you figure it out, it will most likely be removed pretty easily.

Make sure the trigger is cleaned up and properly lubricated.

Look inside the lug recess area of the chamber. when you pushed the action into the bedding some of it probably went into that area through the front screw hole just behind the recoil lug. A small mag light will help you see into this area. The bedding should easily break free.Rick.

Also, check to be sure your rear action screw isn't protruding too far up into the bolt channel, as this can cause binding when closing the bolt.

I agree!

Did you change the scope bases?

Most of my bolt bindings have been because one of the front base screws was too long. Easy fix.

sorry for not getting back to this ,, been busy with work and stuff,, after i cleaned up the rifle and got it all oiled up i took a flashlight and looked into the action and reciever and as you guessed there was some bedding that was smeard,, i had to get a toothpick and pick at it for awhile but i got it and all seems to be working well,, havent been able to get to the range yet but i am looking forward to it tho,,,,

If you go to your Dentist with regularity, ask him/her for any broken instruments. They work very well for removing bedding where a toothpick can't reach.Rick.

That is one of the best ideas I've heard on this forum! A good gal friend of mine is an oral hygenist, I'll have to hit her up for some broken tools!

She should be able to get some explorers, margin trimmers, curettes etc. I have several different types in my shop. Mixing spatulas in different sizes for bedding material. Mechanics also like them.Rick.
