First year hunting my 444. Last year the 45-70 took care of business very well but after buying this late summer I decided it needed the exposure. AND, as you all well know, an unblooded rifle in the safe is a shame and downright sad.
No monster but this year was meat year as my two grown daughters and their families have a liking for deer and asked for some if possible. Being a nice dad I was happy to oblige.
Went out Monday, Tuesday and Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sunday took one of the son in laws but saw nothing in a couple hours and he froze so we went in. (it was cold early)
Even went to the neighboring county to a buddy's place on an invite for an evening. Interesting season as I have only hunted my own place for years.
Saturday morning had cold and dense fog.Looked like this:

About an hour and a half later I saw something in the fog. (sounds like a scary movie)
Thought coyote first then it grew.
At about 70 yards he turned to the fencerow to jump into some woods so I shot.

Well done Dewey, congratulations. That buck will be very tasty.
Looks like the big 444 did the job quite well.

I have to say the 444 acquitted itself very well. It was about as efficient as a person could ask.
Same number of shells shot as there were deer collected. Can't ask for more that that.
Did you see any more of those wolves you had prowling around up there?

Fine looking series of meals you have laying on the ground, Dewey. Great job. Congratulations.

Dewey, I think your reputation as a hunter among the critters on and around your property is well known, since I see no blood I am guessing he saw you, recognized you and died of a heart attack.

either way----Congratulations

Dewey, what will you plant in that field in the spring ? it looks like you have it ready

Awesome deer Dewey! Those big guns are addicting huh?

Congrats on the meat pole buck!

Thanks!
Europe, that field was soybeans this year, will be corn next year.

Dewey, congratulations on another fine buck!! You sure do like those lever actions .
Thank you for the post.

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks Dan!
Yes, I do. Something good for the spirit about levers for me at least.
I have a bunch of bolts also but none with straight walled cartridges (only ones legal in Ohio) thus the levers

Scotty,
Thanks and the meat pole has been replenished.

You have to love a man that shoots lever action rifles !!!

Dewey, you bough a drink for Jamila but not me----no invites for you to hunt the great white north

Congratulations on the hunt however, well done.

Cheyenne,

Ooooo! God one, Jamila. However, there are no snakes (other than fur-bearing ice snakes) where the white bear lives. (y)

Dr Mike

touche lol

Dewey

We do have the Mamba, Puff and various breeds of Cobras, but the Mamba is probably the most aggressive and they can only travel 12 miles an hour or so. If they catch you, you have about an hour to live and they can be up to 7 feet long, so I am guessing that if you saw one coming at you, you would be able to run faster than 12 miles an hour lol

Sorry Dewey we got a long way from deer hunting in Ohio, Congratulations sir on your hunt

Best Regards

Jamila

Thank you gents!
And Pat, they're really just wild steers with all the corn
