This followed me home from the gunshow today along with a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10

What I know.

Chamber 6.5-06
HVA action
Canjar single set trigger with tang safety
Leupold 7.5X scope with AO.
Metal butt plate with trapdoor
RCBS FL size die 6.5-06

What I'm not sure of.

What model HVA this is?
Douglas barrel 1:10 twist?
Conetrol rings? Bases say Buhler?
If I'll ever warm up to the stock?

That stock is a bit funky but you should be able to find a nicer one :) Too bad we don't have different laws but I would love to have that Leupold 7.5 scope of yours but shipping such items into Canada isn't allowed. Nice buy you got there.

That stock reminds me of some I saw come out of Harold Carroll's shop back in the 80s. Reminds me of some of the benchrest/sillouhette rifles from that era.

Giant pancake cheekpiece, beavertail forend, oversized pistol grip cap...not a backpacking rifle for sure.

Just curious, is the cheekpiece an add-on or is it integral to the stock?

Of course we'll need to know how it shoots!

What the heck is the extra screw (I think that's what it is) under the fore end, ahead of the sling stud?

Outside of the stock, I kinda like it. I want to play with a 6.5-06, and I like (in theory, at least) the single set trigger. I might move the scope to something a little more appropriate (like a .222, or my Fireball .221), but then I might not. Looks like the metalwork was pretty well done.

I had a couple of these HVA's, a Model 3000 Crown Grade (7mm Mag) and a Lightweight (4100?) in .243. I bought my first one in about 1963 (7mm mag). They both had the same cocking piece and the aluminum floorplate assembly. The Crown Grade that I had was as well made as any (including the older Sako or FN) Mauser actions that I have owned. It was a quality action all the way.

The stock on yours does not look factory, Husqvarna was always pretty conservative on stock designs. That definitely looks to me like Beuhler mounts and rings. I have some just like yours in the drawer.

The whole rifle is amazingly light weight, my guess is under 7.5 lbs unloaded.

The cheekpiece is integral to the buttstock.

There are two set screws in the front of the forearm. I was told this was to add pressure to the barrel to improve groups. I've heard of adding forearm pressure but this is the first I've ever seen it done with two screws.

It looks like a very cool rifle. The stock is a little odd, but the rifle itself looks very nice and a 6.5-06, well, that is a cool one! Even the scope is very cool too. I think you made a great buy. Looking forward to hearing how it shoots. Scotty

Old school, long range hunting rifle.

Give it an honest try just the way it is before chopping it up for parts - the ol' beast might impress.

Somebody put a lot of work into that stock and it probably wouldn't be too hard to reshape the cheek piece. Being that light you wouldn't have to do much to the stock except make it look like what you want. It's really a sleek looking rifle and if it shoots as high tech as it looks you may have a real winner. Let us know how it does.

I did some measuring last night and came up with a 19-7/8" barrel and 1:9.5 twist. I wonder how fast it will push a bullet out? I hope to get out and shoot it this weekend and see what the the rifle can do. Anyway I'll bet she'll bark with that short barrel!

I think i could "snuggle up" to that ole gal at the bench. Reminds me of a Salt Flats racer, just sittin still...... Cool. Bet she shoots....CL

The 6.5-06 is a cool round. Welcome to the 6.5mm club.
Give the 130 gr AB a try.

I've been shooting the 6.5X55 for the last couple of years. Since I got brass and dies with the rifle and bullets at home I figured what the heck. 8) If I don't like it I'll sell it or rebarrel the rifle.

This grip cap looks like something I remember from the Herter's catalog (that I wore out when I was a kid). Can't say that the stock is my style but someone put alot of work in it. Great round, probably well worth a bedding job, if it needs it and see how she shoots.

HERTERS.....!!! Thats a possibility. They had all kinds of stocks and they built there share of Mausers in there day. I think they usually put their name on them though.... but the stock sure could have come from them. Wish I would have kept one of those old catologs. CL

I got to shoot the rifle yesterday using the old handloads. 54 grains 4831 (type wasn't listed) CCI 250 primers, and 140 grain Rem CL bullets, all loaded in old military 06 brass. There wasn't any pressure signs but the load seemed pretty middle of the road from what I could find.

Good news is the rifle shows potential to shoot well. The scope was way out of adjustment, and I think I'm going to send it into Leupold for a once over. I ran out of horizontal adjustment when I got it back on paper, I can fix some of that with the windage screws. I just think that I'll send it to Leupold just in case.
