After re wiring the water heater this morning, I finally left tn for idaho. Why does a 14 yearr old house pick this week to decide it doesn't like the wiring ? I had to run new wire from the breaker to the heater! I made it to st. Joe MONTH. Only 550 miles, but Greg is alreadY there and is going out to scout tomorrow. Any body know the road conditions on I-80?

Not sure about the roads but St Joe Michigan has some of the best salmon fishing in the world! Something tells me you're not in St Joe though LOL

yeah..........sorry about that! I cant type on my blackberry yet. :? That was supposed to be St. Joe MO. It appearently has its own spell checker. I got the laptop goin now.

Stanley and Chalis, for elk and mule deer. never hunted mulies before!

Best of luck on your hunt!

There's been some interesting weather of late...

Good luck on your hunt. You are going to be running around Elmer Keiths neck of the wood. Should be a great hunt. My buddy just got back from Afghanistan and his father is putting on a full elk camp in the Challis/Salmon area. Talk about a great welcome home. He just put a new Nightforce 5.5x25 I think on his MK5 Accumark 300 WBY. I am pretty sure he is going to have a great time out there. Nothing like getting back from a deployment and jumping into an awesome elk hunt. Good luck JD. Keep the wind in your face and your eyes along the skyline! Scotty

Your buddy deserves a good hunt. Thank him for his service for us! We'll be hunting the Challis area for mule deer this week and hitting Stanley for Elk I think.I made it to Laramie Wyoming today. Hopefully I'll get there by this time tomorrow. the roads aren't too bad except in some places. I left so late and in such a hurry yesterday that I for got my chains. hopefully I wont need them. I suppose I can buy some out here if needed. You have to order them in Tennessee. not a high sales item down south!
Greg says theres snow up high so maybe it'll help move something down. he saw some does and cow elk today around Challis, but no bulls. YET!

JD, I wish you lots of luck and hope you get a great Muley, they will get into your blood. And ELK, wow, if you can control yourself around them, good luck. I run myself ragged while in elk country, they are like a highly addictive drug, chasing them monsters is about as much fun as I have ever had in my young life. Good luck again, drive safe. Roads shouldn't be too bad just yet, if you have a 4x4 you shouldn't have any issues. Scotty

Ain't that the truth! I've watched grown men turn to blubbering idiots when the big bulls begin to bugle and rake the bush. Always a rush to watch them coming in.

My first bull was shot as 45 yards, and I made a horrible first shot, I redeemed myself with a good second shot, but I was so flustered, I have never been that kind of excited. Even getting shot at or around never had me going like a Bull Elk thrashing a tree or bugling so close I could see his eyes bulging through my scope. Made a little girl out of me, but I would never change a thing. Scotty

I have seen fellows shoot the treetops, never aiming, they were so excited. JD, you'll have a great time. Carry some nitroglycerin for the heart.

I'll probably need some oxygen too! I put on a couple (really just a couple!) of pounds this year while I was laid off. and yes while I was laid off I just sat around instead of working out when I had the time. :?

Yeah, well I wish it was only a "couple" of pounds that found its way onto my body. I am going to have to make some serious lifestyle changes before next hunting season, as I intend to climb for goat and sheep next fall. The transition to higher elevations can work havoc with the body.

Hey, we're pulling for you and everybody here wants to see success for you.

Well thanks Dr. Mike! dont for get Greg Nolan will be there with me. he's already there.

Man, it's like a family reunion. Good hunting for each of you. We'll undoubtedly hear some great reports. Certainly, you'll see some beautiful country.
