OK guys one has to go.
Currently in my short range/brush category I have the following guns.
Sako lever in 308 Win
Win pre 64 in 32 Win SPCL
Marlin 45-70 Limited V 1/2 octagonal 1/2 round 24" barrel
Ruger #1 458 Lott Laminated SS 24" barrel

One of the last 2 need to go. They are both beautiful and both very versatile the edge going to the Lott. Bullets from 300-600 but with velocity to spare.

Help me make up my mind guys!

If you're not taking a single shot for Cape Buff or other Big Dangerous Game... sell the Lott.

I would agree with Guy, sell the 458 Lott.

The marlin is a limited edition introduced a while back, 1/2 octagonal and 1/2 round barrel. It does sport the 24" barrel so overall length is a little longer than the Lott.

This is what some people want for them these days.

Mine also sports a Tang sight.

Both are great rifles...... but I'd keep the Marlin...

Never know when ya have to take a quick, second shot at a wounded, charging Ninja Squirrel.

I'd axe the lever personally but it would depend on what you do with a big bore.

Honestly?

Mostly goof off although I did carry the Lott for elk one year. 350 TSX at 2800 fps. That was fun!

If it was me and those were my guns, the Marlin would go. Why? because I have been collecting Ruger #1 rifles since 1975. 8) I do so love those little beasties. I actually have a spare #1B in 30-06 that will be rebarreled to, yep, you guessed it, a .35 Whelen. 8) I do have #1H's in .375 H&H, .404 Jefefry and .416 Rigby but I don't shoot them much. One the ammo is extremely expensive and two the arthritis in my shoulder screams bloody murder afer a few rounds. :( Never could figure out why Ruger went with those skimpy pieces of rubber on the really hard kicking guns. KInd of a funny story on how I got the Rigby though. My wife and I wee at the range and this guy set up next to us and pulled the #1 out of a case. It had the heavy looking bael of the Tropicals so I said to my wife that I thought it was a .458 or some such. The guy shot one round and the stream of cussing could be heard all over the range. I go over and ask what he's shooting and he hands me a shell with .416 Rigby on the headstamp. I said that it must be one mean gun to shoot and he hand me the gun and says, You shoot it." By time my wife had come over and she said, "You're not gonna shoot that thing are you?" I said, "Sure. Why not? About 50 or 60 yards out was a rock about the size of a cantaloupe si I took a bead on it and took the shot. I made gravel and said, "That ain't so bad." He said "You want ti buy it?" and a deal was struck. The price was good as he'd just bought the gun and a box of ammo and I got the whole package gun, ammo and the case for $500. Now if some very rich uncle I don't know about kicks of and leaves me a fortune or I win the lottery, maybe I can take that thing to Africa and do in something big and nasty. Like that's gonna happen.

I think a .375 or .416 caliber is a better choice for general use in a big bore for NA but the .45's smack the crap out of bears on bait  . A buddy of mine just bought a defiance action to build a .500 A-Square and a .50-.460 Weatherby. He already has a .470 Capstick. Well after he worked on his Capstick loads a bit more he is doing 3300+fps with 275gr Barnes X's that he drilled out a bit to lighten them to 250grs. With the .50's he will probably only gain a max of 200fps with 30" barrels (His Capstick has a 24" barrel) and it's going to cost him 2000.00 or so to try them. He want's me to buy a barrel as well since I bought the 500 A-Square reamer (he talked me into it) and I have 2 Stiller TAC338 action coming. I told him I'd wait to see what his does first.

Since his accident he is very limited for hunting so he has turned into a bear baiting lunatic. He wants to anchor them on the spot and he doesn't care what caliber or bullet it takes to get it done. Basically he wants to have a gun big enough he can treat a bear like a rock chuck. He's even mentioned a .458 or .50 on a Cheytac case. I admit it would be cool to see 250gr bullets pushed to nearly 4000fps.

Maybe I will sell both and get................ something I guess

Well if I was going to use a Lott for it's intended purpose I'd want a repeater.

I need to finalize my prints and send my dummy rounds in to get the reamers cut for the .30-338 Lapua Imp. and .375-.338 Lapua Imp. I think a 350SMK from a .375-338 Lapua Imp./.378 weatherby would hammer a bear pretty hard too. I'll probably have to wait until spring to find out though.

I'll sell you my .375 RUM now that your .375less. :)

I'm headed to Casper on the 24th of Sept. for a couple of days if you need me to bring it.

I was sorry to see your post deleted, but I am sure I know why you did it, I have the same problem. But leave it up eventually either Scotty or I will see it and respond to you.

Fortunately for me I printed it out as I wanted to point out a typo that you made. no big deal, but you said 1300 MV and I know you meant 2300 MV

Also, I agree with you that if Fotis was looking for something different, a good woods gun, and a well built gun the Alaskan Co-pilot would fit that bill. Regardless of whether one used the 45/70 or 457 WW Magnum, the gun itself is well made, with a marlin lever, a big loop lever, 16 1/2 inch barrel, take-down, stainless barrel and laminated stock, makes it a great gun for wet conditions and thick willows hunting. The price will turn a few off, and the service turn around is not perfect. Good service, but sometimes it takes a little longer than you feel is necessary.

Scotty, except for the price, this is another gun that you would enjoy playing with --like Jerry and I, I know you like those levers LOL

I also saw you made several posts this A.M. and I am assuming you made it home. Jerry and I are glad your safely home with your family.
