And what in the world is an "assault bullet "

List of Proposed California Gun Control Measures — 500 Round Max, No Grandfathering, No Detachable Mags, Mandatory License
Posted on February 7, 2013 by Nick Leghorn

A press conference just wrapped up in California where the Democrats (who have an overwhelming majority in the state) unveiled their latest gun control agenda. And since the Democratic majority is so strong, these aren’t proposals — it’s a preview of things to come. According to one person who was watching the press conference, the following new restrictions on personal liberties will be coming to the most “liberal” state in the union . . .

-Possession of hollow point bullets and similar assault bullets a felony.
-Must register and report ammo purchases. Only purchase max 500 rounds.
-10 round magazine limit
-ALL magazines must be fixed to the gun (can not be removed without the use of a tool)
-100% prohibition of all magazines greater than 10 rounds. All previous grandfathered magazines become illegal. Felony if you keep one.
-Changing definition of shotgun revolving cylinder — Basically only single shot shotguns will remain legal.
-Bullet Buttons will become illegal — All AR and AK style rifles that are currently equipped with them will be designated Assault Weapons. Felony to possess.
-All gun owners now must be licensed like drivers.
-All gun owners must carry gun liability insurance

This is the first time we’ve seen a state try to enact this kind of ammunition posession legislation.*Maryland*is trying to set up a minimum age for ANYONE to purchase ammo, but California is going leaps and bounds beyond that

. From Yahoo! news:
Like New York, California also would require*background checks*for buying ammunition and would add to the list of prohibited weapons.
Those buying ammunition would have to pay a fee and undergo an initial background check by the state Department of Justice, similar to what is required now before buyers can purchase a weapon. Subsequent background checks would be done instantly by an ammunition seller checking the Justice Department’s records.
And what did the senators have to say about the pending legislation? From the presser:
“We respect the Second Amendment right of law abiding citizens to have guns for hunting, for sport, for protecting their homes and families. But loopholes in California’s tough gun laws have been exploited long enough,” said Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg. “We can save lives by curbing the proliferation of guns designed to be fired and reloaded rapidly. We can save lives by getting guns and ammunition out of the hands of the wrong people. We can save lives if every gun owner knows how to safely handle those guns. And if we can save lives, we must act to do so.”

...famous last words...

...that no one will remember when the crime rate skyrockets & "They" need even more stringent "Gun Controls"...

Anyone who is sane and stays in CA is proving they are making an unrealistic assessment of themselves. That state is lost, hopelessly. I can assure you I'll never willingly set foot in it again, for any reason. I suggest all those great folks who disagree with these sorts of measures should simply vacate the state immediately upon passage, taking their businesses, employment & income tax, and property tax revenues with them. It's really the only way this sort of crap will be ended - hitting them in the wallet where they cannot abide it. At some point, only the looney left will remain to pay for everything, and you know how they rely on spending other folks' money for their generous plans...

If every liberty loving citizen closed their businesses or quit their jobs and vacated these states, two things would occur. First, the states would collapse, economically, which would perhaps be enough of a system shock to make the point (though I doubt it), and second, the folks leaving, would discover the significantly higher quality of life available at far reduced costs in other states. Just don't bring that looney batcrap liberal junk with you when you leave. In fact, perhaps we should set up irradiation zones around the border to be sure it's all effectively killed before people can transmit it to the innocent public.

I'll be curious to see what of the remaining firearms industry in CA (Weatherby among them) stays after this. It's highly untenable, for certain.

More rapidly than I could ever have imagined, the United States is being divided into two nations--one socialistic (blue state) and occupying the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, the other (red states) composed of the Heartland (minus IL and MN), the South and most of the Southwest.

"Possession of hollow point bullets and similar assault bullets a felony.'

I knoe what a hollow point bullet is but can someone tell me just what in hell is an "assult bullet"? :?:    I'm thinking they could not only mean FMJ bullets but any bullet meant to expand on contact. Guess California hunters will either have to learn archery or throw rocks. :x
I've had people chastise me for escaoping from the land of fruits, nuts and flakes, AKA the People's Republik of Kalifornia but to be honest, I've always believed in the principle of, "Flunk now and avoid the rush."   I made my break to freedom back in 1970, never to return except for holidays and family birthdays. Today they're all dead and buried, :( so California will never see my sorry arse again.

Dub... I left southern CA when I was 18 (1993) and moved to AZ. After 6 years of baking, I managed to experience a cranial-rectal inversion and moved back to CA for four years. I finally overcame my cranial rectosis and moved to CA North (OR)... after dealing with tree hugging liberals for 5 years I discovered ID and headed east. I used to want my family to escape CA but any more, I tend to feel the same as you. I almost have to question the sanity of my relatives... even my very conservative brother for staying in the LA area. When we head down to LA and San Diego to visit family, I'm pretty much ready to leave as soon we get there.

I hear you. I have friends out there, but if they can't get the gumption to leave after this, they just aren't right. I'm going to go on a "no california products" kick as well, I think. I think I can do with wines from NZ and S Amer instead of CA, and I can easily buy produce from Florida or S Amer, but the hard part will be the "No Weatherbys" thing. I'm going to send a letter directly to Ed about it if this crap passes. They seem to think it won't but I tend to believe it will pass without much resistance. We are, as a nation, fast approaching the point at which those of us with any sanity are going to have to go on strike or something, to allow enough shock to occur to those who believe this kind of ninny-jackass BS to wake up.

I hate this place. If it were possible for me to move my family and myself tomorrow, I would. With that being said, I am kind of stuck here, but all us here are not idiots and we will continue the good fight...
