Today is the first Opening Day of bow season I have missed in over a decade. We are visiting friends in Baku this weekend while in the neighborhood (relative comment there). We went out to a UNESCO Heritage site called Gobustan to look at the ancient petroglyphs (artwork carved into rocks on the hillside, link here). Here is the first thing I saw:
This is from 2000-3000 BC. I've never seen a buck this big on opening day... Here are renderings at the museum of all the deer/stags from these rocks:

In the National Carpet Museum they had a special collection of 11th and 12th Century weapons. It was interesting seeing the attention and unique originality given to the personal weapons. Not too different from today in some respects.
Not my typical mosquito infested, sweaty tree sit to start the season off. If I had to miss, this wasn't a bad alternative.
