No bear, but a great morning! Got up into the local hills where I've found bear before. Walked a long-abandoned road. Walked a small year-round stream. Glassed some likely hillsides. Found grouse, wild turkey and mule deer, but no bear. That's fine. There's time.
I don't have the time right now to set up a camp and hunt hard, but can do some half-day and day-long hunts. Temps were in the high 60's this morning and the low 90's this afternoon. Awfully hot and dry for hunting, but season opened today. A few photos from today's hunt:
The rifle: 45/70 Marlin 1895 with a 2.5x Leupold, and handloaded 350 gr RNSP Hornady bullets:
Smart doe - kept plenty of vegetation between us:
The abandoned road I used to walk into the area. Pretty lush for such dry country. I thought I might find a bear along the stream and road. No such luck, not yet:
Glacier Peak, a Cascade volcano:
Awfully warm for hunting yet, but worth a try.
Regards, Guy
