as well as a box of the Speer 300 gr. HP bullets. I chose those bullets based on what was available and on postings from others on this forum. Since I already have some of the FTX ammo I am going to get a box of the FTX bullets also. The FTX loads use a shorter case than the other bullets and I don't think I can use the cases for anything else.

I shot the rifle again last night with a co-worker. The more I shoot it, the more I like it. Ammo is going fast though. I need to get some reloads going.

It appears that H4198 is a popular powder for this cartridge so I think I will try that first.

The last time I loaded a straight wall cartridge was way back in the 1980's for 38 special and 357 mag.

I know what to look for as far as high pressure signs in bottleneck cartridges in a bolt action rifle. What are the high pressure signs for a straight wall cartridge in a lever action rifle? I really don't want to experience extraction issues.

G'Day Fella's,

NYDAN, I have a Ruger M77 MkII stainless in .350 Rem Mag that is surplus to my needs (and I can't seem to sell), and was thinking about rebarreling it to the .450 Marlin?
It is a great smaller .45 Cal cartridge!!!

Doh!

Dan,

Congratulations. You are going to have fun putting loads together.
The 450 (and 45/70) is a hammer on WT deer. a 300 gr bullet at 2200-2300 fps is quite decisive!
