Oregon apps in

Only drew a deer tag in the unit adjacent to my brothers property in Klamath County.

Put in for some hard to draw elk tags, thinking that I would archery hunt regardless

Only concern is with all this dry weather, not sure what will be open to public access in the later part of the summer. Many of the timber companies have allow walk in access, which is fine, but end up closing to all access when things really dry up (last 1/2 of archery season). This year might just be no public access at all.

Place we scouted last year also had a lot of bear sign, so plan an early fall bear hunt in the area.

That is a great Cougar, I wouldn't have thought there would be many out in that area!!!!!!

Well, did Guy draw his as well?

Good luck to you all, I will be thinking about your Oregon hunters out there. Awesome country. If I could do two a year, I'd love to climb the hills chasing them spiker's around!

Back home now guys, didn't have my Oregon license number with me while I was away, so I couldn't check draw results.

Gee - looked this morning and it says something like:

Successful for 254Y2

So I guess I'm going elk hunting in Oregon this year! Woo Hoo! (y)

Congratulations, Guy. That is great news. Looking forward to learning your preparation for and execution of the hunt.

Yeah... Will have to get behind a rifle again at some point... Doc is thinking late summer for that.

Want to borrow a .500 Gibbs for your elk hunt? :)

Very cool. I'd hunt with your 25-06 and some PTs before not hunting. That little pill will work fine as long as the shooter does his part. No sense in stressing things if you don't have to. Man, great news on that front. Should be a great fall.

I agree Scotty. If the .25-06 is all I feel like I can safely handle, then so be it. Folks have been killing elk with the .25-06 for a long time...

Agree though, it's time to bump up to the 115 Partition for elk. I've got 450 of 'em I think, maybe more. Time to use a few... They shoot at 3190-3200 fps from the 700 CDL.

So I guess that's a no on the Gibbs huh? :)

Just joshing with you Guy. Take care of that shoulder. I'll be praying for you.

The doctor says that while my recovery has been stellar, that my body can't heal faster than "normal". I am now 8 weeks out from the surgery with at least 6 more weeks before I can resume "my" normal activities. He will give me the go ahead on shooting around the end of August. That will give me 6 weeks of range time, prior to my first elk hunt. sandwiched between fire assignments. If I stay away from new load development that will be more than enough time. I think the bow will be a bigger challenge.

Shoot, the way you shoot that 25-06 and the results you've had it should be just fine if that's what you need to do.
That Partition at 3000 plus is going to hit something pretty hard IMO.

Well after 13 years I finnaly drew a antelope tag for the Steens mountain unit. So that means I'm chasing deer and elk with my bow
