Season opens next Saturday. We will be back in the Lodgepole flats this year in the Fort Rock unit. Final preparation in progress. Camp on Wednesday for a few days of Cougar calling.

Good luck (y) remember we all like a good hunting story with a few photos .
Please remember to have Fun, shoot Straight and most of all be Safe.

Blessings,
Dan

We are heading to Fort Rock unit ourselves! I am heading over tonight after work. Looking forward to the forecasted rain on Sunday and Monday...more specifically, what happens afterward.

I'll be camped in the center of the unit. 10 mile ESE of Walker mountain Lookout.

11.5 days of hunting, No buck. That happens when you have one Giant and 2 monsters to chase in the thickets. They out smarted me again. Broke in a new set of boots very well. Had a great hunt, always makes it interesting when behind the next screen of lodge pole. A 400lb mule deer might be hiding. Yesterday I was very close to the brothers. Hearing distance, for a listen of them trot off. Had the Giant within 50 yards 2-3 times. Never saw a flicker of fur, to give you an idea the type of area they hide in. These 3 deer hold in the same 4 square miles I found them in 2011, during the time after they rub off the velvet, until they follow the doe for the main estrous. I let them rest for two years, due to frustration. They where still alive as of season close yesterday.

It is frustrating to be so close and yet so far. I've listened more than a few times to the patter of hooves bounding away in heavy cover. Not much I could do but hope for another chance.
