PA elk

He'll be smiling for weeks to come!
Not to mention everytime he looks at that mounted on the wall, reliving the memory of that adrenaline rush.
I have long said that there is no other thing that gets the blood pumping quite like a bull elk bugling at you within a stones throw, that you can enjoy doing out in the wilds!

That is an amazing animal. Congratulations to the hunter for "keeping it together" and executing a fine shot when faced with such an exciting situation.

there are some big bulls in pa . having good feed , and limited license sales sure helps the herd .

archery season , Sept 12-27....................... 15 bull , 7 cow license issued
regular season 1 , OCT 3- 11 ..................... this is a new season , starting this year . 15 bull , 15 cow
regular season 2 , OCT 31 - NOV 8.......................26 bull , 25 cow
regular season 3 , JAN 9 - 17 ..........,,,........ this one used to be cows only . 24 bull , 28 cow

starting this year , PA has now made it that a bull license is one per lifetime . the hunter can still apply for a cow license .

total license issued , for this season ; 80 bull , 75 cow

I don’t like that the crossbow is considered “archery” placing it in the same category as vertical bow shooters. Nonetheless that is a tremendous bull.
All those decades without elk at all and now Look at the numbers and trophy quality available!

Look like they may have been trespassing on this hunt.https://www.statecollege.com/centre-county-gazette/guides-charged-with-trespassing-in-centre-county-elk-hunt/

boy o boy . this is what happens when you just have to succeed . hopefully things get sorted out , and we hear the final outcome on this .

I'll try to link it again . I had to copy and paste your link .

So there is not, at this point, a single reference to the elk or the hunter in the officers citation. There exists a filling date, a county reference and the guides names, two separate citations reportedly. The author couldn’t wait to tie the two events, trespass and the bull together. The PC affidavit will certainly eliminate any conjecture to the bulls involvement but at this point it is just conjecture. Pretty poor reporting in my mind even with the understanding, after 20 years a cop, there is no such thing as coincidence. One way or the other now folks are going to be disparaging this great bull and those involved.

here is how I'm adding up they story . I could be adding 1+1 and getting 3 , so I could be way out in left field , time will tell . "IF" any of these rules are broken , the elk will be considered illegal and confiscated , with everyone involved being fined , and or loss of future hunting privileges for a certain length of time .

hunting outside of your unit , is illegal . trespassing is illegal . "herding" elk is illegal . "driving " , or pushing elk is illegal . I don't "think" a guide can be involved with the hunt other than showing the hunter around ,advise on trophy size , and calling , any other involvement is illegal . "IF" someone that is brought along to help with retrieval , and not listed as a guide , gets involved with the hunt , such as calling , this is illegal .the hunter is allowed so many of each , guides , and retrieval helpers . I'm pretty sure the guides can help track a wounded elk , and retrieve it , out to the truck . not sure if they still do this ,but I'd bet they do ; after being successful in drawing a tag , the game commission has a one day class explaining all the proper rules for the hunting season . the guides must also be approved by the game commission . by having the class there is no questions on what is legal .

the size of PA's elk range is the size of a postage stamp on a map of PA , and it's broken up into 9 units , with a small number of hunters in each unit . the hunt is highly regulated , and with the small unit size , is very easy to patrol . like shooting fish in a bucket , "IF" a rule is broken .

every elk must be brought in to a check station , there is only one check station . a biologist pulls a tooth , and weighs . I seem to remember the body temp being checked , when I'd go watch at the check station . every kill location must be flagged , so a warden can go , and look it over .
