Pack Out

Boy, not too much better than a good elk in the freezer to take the pressure off a little. Sounds like she tastes just right too!

This is my pack horse!!! I still have to carry meat with a pack from time to time but generally I can get to withing a half mile with the wheeler. Ideally I can drive right up to it!

Elkman congrats on the elk! It is work, but it sure makes great stories and memories!! My dad made some great game carts using a motorcycle wheel and brakes! As you can see it's designed for two people, but you don't even need a single track to take them on. You can just go cross country where the going looks the best. On really steep downhill or uphill you just zigzag or switchback. A whole cow or young bull is doable for two guys. Love this thing.

Here is a really big cow my buddy got. We actually got two cows together and had about a mile is all to the truck. No trail just timbered hillside. It would take us about 10 minutes longer bringing the elk out then it would walking in with the empty cart just to give a perspective on how easy it was. When you get to a log you have to go over, it's simple to just lift the cart up and over. When you get to the truck lower the tailgate and pull the cart parallel to the tailgate and while one guy holds the cart the other slides the elk into the back of the truck. No lifting!

Here is a spike whole. It was about 3 miles we took him on an old two track.

I have seen these carts before, they look like a great deal in decent country. We could have used one on my portion of the trip last week. Most of our elk in Wyoming could have come out that way as we hunt uphill hunt in decent ground.

Sadly these carts are verboten in the wilderness area I frequent, thanks to former President Bill Clinton.

Yeah, I usually end up quartering them, or boning them out and packing them on my back.

It sure it alot of work, but I always am excited to begin the pack out. Does not hurt for long. Plus it gives you a great sense of satisfaction of packing them out yourself! Congrats on the full freezer
