Partition OAL problem

I'm working up a FANTASTIC load using the Partition 170gr and VN550. However, my Lee book states MOAL is 3.307. When I seated the bullet, it's length looked like it was darn near close to falling out of the case. I understand they're probably not used to round nose bullets in the .30-06, but still, I feel like I've loaded the 170 with VN540 before and they shot really really well, and it was seated close to the ojive...idk what's going on here. Thoughts?

I'm a little confused, this is posted in the .358 forum but you're talking about the 30 cal Partition? Just seat it deeper. You're also loading the 170gr Partition designed for the 30-30 in a 30-06. So you will need to adjust seating depth to work in your cartridge and rifle.

.308 is the diameter of all .30-06 bullets. I assumed they were classified as diameter not caliber because -06 is the most versatile rifle cartridge on earth and it wasn't an option, thus the assumption it was a diameter thread. That's what I was thinking, just don't crimp, load the cartridge in the rifle and seat the bullet .010 less lands...

Np, I just wanted to make sure we were on the right track.

The 170gr Partition RN is designed for the 30-30. Between that and being a round nose design, it will be a shorter bullet and require different seating depths. It would probably be a good 300 Blackout/Whisper bullet too.

Yeah I figured that much. I found an old catalog (really old, like 1920s old) loaded with round nose .30-06 ammo, and thought to myself man, what a happier of a cartridge with a brush bullet in it! So I went for it on my hand loads. I've loaded with these before with ridiculously incredible results. I just can't remember what I did with the load data to figure out where I seated them, why, and where I got that data from. I wouldn't have just winged it

The 170 gr PT has as thinner jacket to work at 30-30 velocities. The PT design allows it to hold together and work at the higher speeds of the 30-06.

So what are your thoughts on a 170gr RN Partition being pushed out of an 06? I have also loaded Hornady interlock 220 and 200 gr, but let's be honest the Partition is a significantly more deadly design imo

It will work just fine. Years ago I shot a WT buck with a Remington 150 gr SPCL (30-30) bullet from a 30-06. He was quartering towards me, he reared up and over DRT. I found the bullet jacket under the hide on the off side. The lungs were liquidified.
