Pet Loads - 250 grain Partition - .338 Win Mag?

After about 14 different loads I'm still having a hard time finding a load that will shoot under an inch and a half using the 250 grain Partition, in my Browning A-Bolt SS, chambered in .338 Win Mag.

I have been using IMR 4350, H 4350, IMR 4831, RL 19, RL 22 and IMR 4064. I'm a bit frustrated as I currently have a load worked up for the 225 grain, Barnes TSX that consistently shoots around 3/4". I would really like to find a load for the Partition. Anyone out there have any pet loads that they wouldn't mind sharing, using any of the powders listed above? Thanks in advance!

You are working with the right powders. You might try working with the COL to find the sweet spot in your rifle. It could also be that your rifle just doesn't like the 250 gr PT. Nothing wrong with using the 225 grPT, it will get the job done in your 338 Win Mag. :wink:

Reloader 19 is a excellent powder for the 338 Win.
 
My pet load for my 338wm is as follows.

250 grain NP
Remington cases
Fed 215 primer
71.5 grains of H4831sc
COL 3.330

I am having the same problem with the very same rifle! .338 Browing SS...In fact, I have problems getting anything under 1.5 inches....here is what I have found so far for the 250 gr NP (which is the one i plan to use for everything)

250 gr NP
68.0 gr of IMR 4350
Fed 215 Primers
Seated to 3.345 inches
Average Velocity of 25 rounds is 2764 over my chrono

This load gives me the best accuracy, usually around 1-1.5 inches...if I make sure the barrel is cool!!!

How are you finding that load of 73grains with the 250grain PT. I have used this load with 225grain projectiles and it seems very mild in my rifle.

For anyones interest, I am using a tikka 595 continental with 24inch barrel. With RL19 the following were the chronographed results,

73 grains = 2,830fps
74 grains = 2,890fps
75 grains = 2,960fps

I know the velocities are getting up there, but I didn't have any visible signs of high pressure. The bolt wasn't sticky, the primers, whilst being flat, weren't cratering. The bullet in question was a hornady 225grain SST which Alliant recommends a max of 75.3grains (52,100c.u.p), whilst the 225grain Barnes has a maximum of 72 grains of RL19.

I would be interested in anyone's thoughts. Currently I am loading 72.5 grains of RL19 behind the 225grain SST for about 2,800fps. This is accurate in my rifle.

I use the 225 AccuBond and 75.1 of Reloader 19.

I also use a WLR primer instead of Mag Primers which keeps pressure down. No problems with the WLR primers.

If you are getting good groups no animal can tell the difference between 2800 and 2900 Fps in the 338 Win.

I beleve you can increase your powder charge and switch to the WLR primer and improve your vel if needed.
