Pheasant!

Truck Driver, You mentioned the loss of wildlife habitat,
sub divisions take up a lot of it but:
My parents had 3 boys.
I have 3 children and 6 grand children.
My younger brother has 2 children & no grand children, YET.
My deceased older brother had 2 children and 5 grand children.
My parents off spring has already created 9 familes that have built
or bought houses and there is potential for at least 6 more families to be
created and at least 6 more houses to be built or bought. Apparently we
are obeying the part of the Bible that says "Go forth and multiply".
My parents 1 family and 1 house, just down through their grand children,
has the potential of resulting in the creation of at least 15 families and houses.
I hope my off spring, as well as yours and all of my friend's, will one day be
able to have the joy of owning their own home. In the big picture of life sub
divisions and land develolpment is a good thing. I do, however, dislike
loosing the quail habitat, that is now in homes, my family hunted on
when I was a kid but to me it is being put to a better use. I have to frequently
remind myself of this when I start missing the "good old days" of quail hunting.

Now that is something to think about. Just west of Pendleton Or is a small family cemetery plot from the 1860s. You can still see the wagon trail my ancestors used getting to where they buried three of their children that winter. Must have been wild country then. Jeepers, 150 years of houses just from my family, that's a lot of houses, a lot of habitat.

First pheasant hunt of the season. My son and I took Ol' Clarkie and our shotguns to the semi-local pheasant club for a day of hunting. We only came home with two birds, but what a great day!

Yes, that's a duck decoy in the pond behind Clark:

Guy when my dogs were pups I trained them in that same area. I was still living near Seattle. I know that dang decoy has been there for five years anyway. My dogs never tried to retrieve it at the start of a hunt. Always waited until we were done so they could be wet muddy and smelly going home

Pheasants, Chukar any upland game is a joy to hunt with a healthy spirited dogs. The very best part though comes after two full days of hunting. We got home at 1800 last night, 12 hours later, they haven't moved.
