Got out on Sunday to do some steel shooting and to test a few loads out. I had most of a box of 140gr Berger VLD's so I put together a couple of combinations. This one turned in a good group. Velocity is lower than I'd like to see though.

I also have a couple of bags of 140gr nosler Partition blems that are probably 15 years old and wanted to see if I could develope a good hunting load for this rifle should I ever want to use it for bear or elk. I only used IMR7828 for the initial test. 46 grains turned in a pretty good group. I'm sure I can play with seating depth and tighten it up a little. I need to give H4350 a try with these as well.

I've got my ballistic program pretty well calibrated to my load with the 140 Amax. I set out a steel 66% IPSC target (19"x12") at 1000 yards and put the first round on target which made me happy (it was the one in the upper right shoulder looking at the target). Then I put the next 4 (5 round mag) on target as well. Dope was 8.5 mils of elevation and .7 mils of windage. Had a 4-9 mph wind from 3 o'clock. This was the result of 3 different shooters putting rounds through my rifle. It was fun getting 2 friends to get hits at 1000 when they've never shot over 400 before!

Awesome shooting! Man, that rifle is really coming into itself now. Great job!

Those groupings have to be very satisfying for you. Congratulations.

Tim, 260 of yours is performing great, man that is a shooter :) Looks like the Partitions will group tight too, so between the A max and them you will have a lot of shooting and hunting covered.

Tim, I think that you have it together with that rifle 8) those are excellent groups.

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks guys. To say I'm happy with this rifle would be a gross understatement! And I just got 500 amax's courtesy of Sinclair via a free shipping promo they were running awhile back so I'll be busy in the garage reloading for awhile! I really need to get out coyote hunting with this rifle and get it properly broken in though.... There are many a dog that I can remember that hung up a bit out of range in the past that are no longer safe!
