Yesterday a 8lb jug of Midwest powder showed up. Got it at a great price. This is equivalent to BL-C2 , a powder I’m quite found of.

So today I dug deep into the safe and pulled out the 458 WM.

Grabbed some 5x Hornady brass and 500gr RN. I was looking for a 2200 fps plinking load. As with any powder I’m not certain on I start low and go up. 84grs will do it and that is all I could seat and crimp before the bullet would push out.

We’ll have to see how well they do on paper. This barrel is a bit picky.

What mfg is that weapon?

My old man had a 458 made by Kleinguenther.

He loved those things. He had a dozen or so chambered in many different cartridges.

A Savage I bought used. The barrel is picky , 325gr FTX and 500gr Partition shoot decent everything else is challenging. I was planning on a new barrel this year but other projects came forth.
Well I'd think that between the 325 deer zapper and the 500 anything big zapper... You're pretty well set. :)

Have fun. Am interested in how your loads work out! I like plinking with light loads in my bigger rifles.

Keep us posted on how she shoots. At 2200 fps with 500 grains is north of 5300 foot lbs of energy.
I'm still trying to find soneone with a 460 Weatherby and no brake for me to shoot.

I'm not recoil shy....

and........

........

I just gotta know!!!!!!!

I bought the rifle with the intent of shooting cast however that was fruitless. There is a “worm trail” in a short portion of the barrel’s rifling. Solids and jacketed bullets will shoot cast , nope. Had I known of the issue before hand , I would have passed on the purchase. At some point a new barrel will be turned onto it.
