primer availability

Well guys, I'm going to give you the perfect example of why we have a primer shortage. This morning my buddy went to the gun show in Melbourne, Fl. to pick up some powder and primers both for himself and a few boxes for me. He went to our usual table which had an extensive array of powder and all primer sizes. He stood in line behind two other persons and when the fellow in front of him got to the table he asked the salesperson how many primers he had. He was told about 70,000 in all sizes. The guy said "O.K. I'll take all of them. He pulled out a wad of $100 dollar bills and forked out about 2700.00 dollars as the primers were selling at roughly 38.00 a thousand. My Buddy asked him what he was going to do with all the primers and he said "I'm just going to hold on to them". In actuality he was probably buying them for resale. This is why primers are in such short supply. What a disgrace.

I do believe in free market but not price gouging, thats really irritating

The sellers are at fault too. He could have sold the guy a few thousand and spread the stock out through the day. Instead of making them available to 20-30 shooters who probably really need them he just unloads them to one guy?? I agree, the buyer will most likely scalp them to desperate shooters who can't find any.

Even the big mail order house should ration them out until the supply catches up with the demand.

We can only hope that the guy with the primers puts them with the meat and coffee and sugar and all the other panic shortage bought things. And they all find happiness in a floodzone :twisted: :lol:

Was at a gun shop this afternoon and they had about 10 bricks of regular Federal large rifle primers and one brick of Remington 9!/2's. I want to stick with the same primers (CCI match), so didn't buy any. I can't imagine that it will take too long for supply to catch up with demand.

Hornady has an interesting message on their home page that says it will be 4 to 6 months delay for any factory direct sales of ammunition or bullets. Someone is really stocking up! :roll:
