:? I suffer from a disease that gets cured and then seems to hit me once every couple of years. When something isn't broken, I still try to fix it.

I recently got some great groups with that little Remington 7mm-08 using Rem brass, WLR primers and IMR 4350. I decided to switch to CCI primers and vary the charge of 4350 to see if I could improve anything. Long story short, it didn't work. My velocity dropped about 50fps between the same weight charges of powder and I never put a group on paper that I would want to claim.

lefty,
I know EXACTLY what your talking about...... always gotta be messing with something.
I use a lot of IMR 4350 with my 7-08. Tried other powders etc, but have never switched primers.... I have always used CCI BR's in my 7-08 and she's a tack driver.

I have been using Federal GM210M and GM215M primers for many years.
I keep a couple bricks on hand so I won't run out.

CCI's are the coldest primer out there. For me Federal and WIN.

:?: POP, when you say CCI are the coldest, what are you refering to? I've never heard that phrase before. Thanks.

Basically they do not produce the fps that others do. By switching from CCI Large rifle to Win large rifle in a 25-06 I went up 200 fps. I do not know if it is the burn rate or temp or what but I no longer use them.

BTW the hottest out there is Win LR Magnum.

Thanks, now that you told me that, I currently use CCI Magnum primers in my .300 WSM with 200 grain Accubonds. I am getting amazing accuracy so I am reluctant to switch, unless that dang disease kicks in again.

If it works for you and you're happy with the load then you're there!

+1 on that. Why not use a match grade primer when the cost in the same or at least very close? These are my go to primers for just about all rifle loads.
