Project 300 ack. mag.

I'm nearly certain the barrel is a Pacnor Custom Match. It was Bead blasted Finish, But I have begun To polish The Stainless Barrel. Barrel had Some marring to bead blast finish So I'll just Live with it as Polished Stainless. Rifle had been hunted hard put up wet. Shot little. I'll fireform a few brass in the next few days. And Proof test it with a Generic off brand Factory 300 weatherby load. If the 300 weatherby ammo shows no pressure sign I'll shoot a group.

The case is Basically just a 300 weatherby mag with the shoulder changed. The Only Pressure problem Should be from the fact Freebore is Not cut as the Standard Weatherby has. This ammo has a standard jump to rifling Found on standard non weatherby ammo. Very much like Match ammo I have measured in past. .015" + -

MPBR 400yrds on Elk is What I'm looking at from some Research on Load Data + - 5". Also the 168gr is looking better than a 180gr or 200gr for range and Energy as far as I'm willing to shoot. I hope to shoot it Tomorrow

With a 340yrd Zero It looks pretty good. +4.5" 200yrds to -4.5" 400yrds, -16" 500yrds, -24" 550yrds, and -32" 600yrds -- Now if I can Actually get the projected 3400fps and Range shooting matches.

Shot it and Fireformed a couple cases. Case Completely full of water holds 100gr. Max Powder capacity with IMR7828 to base of neck, 91gr. With H1000 to base of neck, 94gr.

Using new Fire formed Brass and the H1000 Starting load for the 165gr Ballistic tip 84gr. I got 3170fps and a very accurate load. With New Weatherby brass and the Take down powder that came in the Cheap Weatherby ammo I bought (79gr IMR4831 Best guess), with a 165gr Ballistic tip. I got 3181fps. Which ran right above the Nosler 300 Weatherby Max load IMR4831 79gr data, 3158fps. With no pressure signs.

I use to shoot 165's 3350fps in my 308 Baer with 83grs of 7828 so I know you've got room to go up if you wish. If the accuracy is there it's hard to screw with things sometimes though.

I Was getting ready to call Huntingtons for the Die set today. Phone rang and I got to spend the day digging up a Septic tank to be Pumped, Then Rebury it. Maybe later this week. It only cost me $200 to work all day.

Who wouldn't want to spend the day digging up a septic tank?

I'm enjoying how your project is coming along.

Lyman 300 Weatherby Die set came today. Ran a 300 Ackley Fireformed case through it, Adjusted to Not bump the Shoulder. Body of case Sized Down and Neck sized Just fine. How many firings I'll get before I need to bump the Shoulder ? Time will Tell. But the Standard 300 Weatherby Dies are going to work for now. I'll Start Fine tuning a Load soon. Scope is the last Thing on the Rifle Revival build list.

Very nice. It has been a cool project. That's a serious hunting cartridge. I'm becoming a little enamored of that big WBY case. Being an Ackley just makes it cooler!
