Just had a thought pop into my head as I was pounding out a PM to Joel... is there a cartridge/rifle combo that you think is proper? By proper, I mean if you think of one, you automatically think of the other? The first two that sprung in my head were M70 Featherweight/.270 Winchester, and M700 Mountain Rifle/.280 Remington. Maybe 7x61 Sharpe and Hart/Schultz and Larson Mauser?

Weatherbys are too obvious an answer, Fotis!

The one that comes to mind immediately is the Ruger Alaskan in 375 Ruger.

Winchester 94 and 30WCF.

Winchester 71 and .348WCF.

Colt 1911 and .45ACP

this could go on awhile...

Yes.

Mark V Weatherby/300 Weatherby

One more would be

Remington 141/35 remington

Rem model seven in 7mm-08

Absolutely. Some rifles or handguns & cartridges just go together:

Springfield = .30-06

M1A/M14 = 7.62 NATO/.308 Win

Colt = .45, either revolver or semi-auto

AR-15 & variations = 5.56/.223

I note that those are all military.

Ingrained in my head at an early age by Grandpa, .257 and Weatherby go together.

98 Mauser and 8X57 or 8mm Mauser which ever you prefer.

96 Mauser 6.5X55

K-31 and 7.5X55

M1 Carbine and 30 Carbine

Mosin Nagant and 7.62X54R

S&W M-29 44 mag and "Did I fire 6 shots or only 5. In all the excitement I can't remember. Do you feel luck punk?" "Go ahead and make my day." :mrgreen:

when i think of bolt rifle the first to mind is a win mod 70

I remembered a couple on the way to town .

The AK and te Mosin Nagant cant remember the caliber designations.

I guess I was looking at this a little differently. When I think of, say, .30-06 or 7mm RM, I can't think of a specific weapon to go with it. You guys may say '742' or '03A3' but I think about it as much in an M700 or Ruger #1, but for whatever reason, .270 screams 'Featherweight'. When I think of .44 Magnum, I think almost as much about Redhawks and SRH, Super Blackhawks and Bisleys, Dan Wessons and Desert Eagles. 1911 and .45 ACP is a pretty good one (ignore the .38 Supers and 10mm for right now). There is certainly not one particular pistol I think of when I think 9mm... P08 Luger or P38 Walther spring to mind as much a G17/G17, S&W 39xx and 59xx, or Beretta 92/M1. .264 WM in an M70 Westerner or .338 WM in an Alaskan are pretty good (the .338 less so).

Pretty good ones (well, except for those pesky SKS carbines).
