Thanks a lot !

One question....does QL also take into account OAL variations ?

For instance....if I'd give you a specific Cartridge OAL, would QL adjust data accordingly ?

Yes. Measured case overfill capacity (powder burn rate, temperature, etc.) is also a parameter that the program takes into consideration.

You left out ambient temp, but I set it for 70 degrees. I set the weighing factor as .33 instead of .5 for overbore bottleneck cartridges. Seems like 74.5 grains is a low mild charge, you may want to add a few more grains up to around 78 grains for more velocity but work up in increments. Side note, I checked the stability of the 215 grain bullet you are using on the Berger website, it seems that its marginally stable as SG=1.21. If it won't group well, you may want to go a little lighter to 200 - 210 grains with 1-11 twist. Let us know how it shoots.

Thanks TackDriver for taking the time.... (y)

I know Berger reccommends even a 1:9" twist rate for this bullet, but I've "heard" Guys having no problems to stabilize it with a 1:12" and, since I like the idea, I thought I'd give it a try...
If it turns out it doesn't work I will get back on lighter bullets....
Here's a group I've shot the other day with my 74,5 load, 4 shots at 100 meters.

Nothing outstanding, I know.... but not horrible either...right ?

With regards to the load, I am going to try some 3 grs. heavier (77,5) and see.
I've tried 77 grs. in the past with no issues.

The one I'm shooting seems quite "balanced" though and not too low...
Here's a pic of the resulted primers :

...a little flatten ? Although within the norm I'd say.

What do you Guys think ?

Thanks

JM

With my 300 I found very good accuracy with the milder loads using H-1000 but when I pushed toward max with the 180 gr bullets that accuracy declined. I ended up going back to my all time favorite of 70+ grains of H-4350, with the Pt for hunting and the 180 gr Seirra for general shooting.

Some updates...

Tried the 77,5 grs. Load @ 100 meter :

Not too good I'd say, so went back to the 74,5....

I've shot three shot group at 100 meter. Two shots within half an inch apart and the third more than one inch....

I decided to try a longer range anyway...

Here's a 5 shot group at 300 meter (328 yds.) :

First shot was the one on the far right, then the three close together and the last went under the 3-shot-group.
It does not seem bad to me...
But now I am thinking this bullet was not meant for short range and thus testing should be performed at longer range...

What do you Guys think ? ...and what would you do next ?

Thank you
