Building a 338 RUM load for a hunting buddy. Starting components as follows.

250 grain Barnes LRX
New Remington brass
O.A.L. will be set at maximum
26" Barrel
Federal 215 primer

I'm thinking Allient's Reloder 33 will yield the highest velocity, but I'd like a look at the other useful powders & estimated speeds please.

Take a look at Retumbo too.
98.6 grs with a 250 gr AB is 3000 fps and sub .5 MOA from my 700 LSS.

89gr of RE26 under the 250 AccuBond or the 250 Berger EH shot very small groups at 400yds in my semi-custom 338RUM. Using Nosler cases and a Fed 215M primer the load clocked 3,000 ft/sec at the muzzle.
I dropped two moose with the AccuBond load.

Nice work.

Seems the 338 RUM brass is hard to find?

I just have doubts about the terminal results on the Berger & LRAB. I know that Barnes will go to work.

The Berger 250EH (Elite Hunter) is a hunting bullet. Given their reputation for killing game animals effectively, I wouldn't be that worried.

At 400 yds, which is the longest I can shoot at our club, the Berger shoots slightly smaller groups then the AccuBond. The smallest group I shot came in at 1.8" (@ 400yds) when loaded .120" off the rifling. The average group was about 2.5" at that distance.

When I return to Newfoundland next year I will be using the Berger 250EH.

That amount of mass pushed at the velocities generated by the 338 RUM will prove effective on anything in NA.

Yes Sir, that's a nice pay load. That will give a critter a proper dirt nap.

Take care.

I'm now working with the new 265 gr ABLR. With Retumbo I'm getting 2900 fps. With a BC of .732, it's a serious long range bullet.

I was thinking about trying that bullet in my RUM. It's nice to see the new BC # posted for these bullets. Let me know how it works out for you.
I checked my software, this bullet with the BC of .732 does pretty good at the longer range work and, has lots of thump.
Take care

The 265 gr ABLR rocks in the 338 RUM.
I shot a WT with it last fall. I'll get my load set this spring and shoot a few crop damage deer with it this summer in preparation for my moose hunt this fall.
