Much nicer now. Those original mounts look like it would be impossible o get a decent cheek weld!

Can't remember which rings those were but they were supposed to be mediums. I just mounted up the scope for pictures while I was waiting for the new base and rings to come in. I was going to move the 4-12X40 AO VX-II back onto this rifle, but I found a smoking deal on the Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16X40 AO scope that is on it now. So the Leupold stayed on my other rifle I was playing with at the time.

The 25-284 has a lot of cool factor going for it. 8)
Very nice looking rifle!

Nice comparison on those two rifles. The old classic look compared to the more modern utilitarian. Both really nice looking and both have clean functional lines. No window dressing. That .25/284 has got to be screamer.

Give us the particulars on your rifle...that looks like it could be fun!
Remington 40X single shot short action. I got it for a top end varmint rifle project 15 or so years ago but never got around it (lack of funds)
Being a single shot I had the throat cut long and seat them way out. The base of the 115gr NBT barely goes past the shoulder junction.
Timney trigger.
It is a Boyd's classic stock, color is Desert Camo. I find the Boyd's classic are a perfect fit for my freakish body.
Leupold 4.5x-14x-40 scope in Leupold lapped duel dovetail rings. Boone and Crockett reticle.
Barrel is 26" long to wring out a little more velocity. Had a muzzle brake installed since I took that pic.
I'm able to see my hits now.
Getting 3150fps with 115 NBT/Re25.
Tried a few loads with Retumbo, groups shrank and velocity went up to 3275fps, Going to load some more to see if it repeats.

I'd say you wound up with a top end varmint rifle. One question what do you have mounted to the top of the scope?

I've only played with R22 and 4831 right now and used 110 AB and 117-120 Sierras. I'm getting great accuracy but my rifle doesn't like velocity. I haven't been able to break 3000 fps and maintain sub moa groups, right at 2900 fps my groups shrink to dime size. Though it will take me a half hour to shoot a 5 shot group that small. Even at a #5 contour my barrel heats up fast it is a long range day to do load development.

I can shoot 3 shot groups pretty fast and be all right. Here is my best group with H4831SC and 117 grain Sierra. I used this load to take last years mule deer. She is slow only burning 42.5 grains of powder.

Here is my best group with the AB and H4831SC again. It is good enough to hunt with but I was out of them when hunting season rolled around and that is why I went with the Sierras.

I've got less than 250 rounds down my tube since the rifle was built. I'm hoping it will speed up someday, but at least 2900 fps isn't going to eat my barrel up very fast. One of these days I'll get around to testing some light bullets but I haven't shot anything lighter than 100 grain Remington factory ammunition, and that was just to get some brass to reload.

Here are the pictures that I promised of my Remington sportsman 78 action, Shilen #6 SS barrel H/S Precision stock, Zeiss 3-12X56 scoped 25-06. I took the buck that was wearing this 9 point rack year before last with it. BANG FLOP

Here is a target that I shot at 300 yards while testing to see if the same load 49 grs Accurate Arms powder shot to the same point of impact as 49 grs IMR 4350 did with the Sierra 117 Pro Hunter with Remington cases and CCI 250 primers. IT DOES  The wind did get me a little on the shot that went out to the left away from the three clustered together. Not bad for 300 yards it is still under 1.5" group.

Count me in. Kimber Classic Select Grade 25 06. Can't beat the 1/4 bore for most applications.

Pics! That has to be a fine looking weapon!

1Shot,

With that rig, you should indeed be one shot and finished with game. Authoritative rig.

Cant believe I missed this thread....

My 250-3000 Savage....an FN 300 Mauser and a leuy VXII. Oh, and what it can do. The pronghorn went 16 1/4 green and was taken at 264 yards. (Dang its been a long time since then and its still fun to post that pic! )

You're slipping. Must be the sun down south! I wondered when you'd throw a picture of your 250-3000 Savage onto the thread.

Yep - I was wondering the same thing Mike. We have actually way too many days with sun and temps in the 80's for me . Still am working on a brother that got my dads 250-3000 in a Savage 99.

CL - that sure is a nice speed goat. Was that shot in SD or points west?

Oh yeah man I'm in!

Czech Mauser, 257 AI, my first ever custom rifle:

My first game I killed w/ the rifle. The first animal ever killed was a nice tasty little 5 pt shot at 250 yards by a co-worker's son during a youth hunt. Talk about the perfect way to break in a new rifle!!!!!

200 yd 3-shot group with my "pronghorn load" of IMR4350 & 100 gr Interlocks fired w/ JD338 recently

The reason I built this rifle with the reason I call the above my "pronghorn load"

Then there is my 257 Roy which I just acquired through trade:

Center & lower left groups, 100 gr ETips & RL22, 3 & 2 shots, respectively

I love me the quarterbores! Someday I'd love a Kimber 84 Select in the standard Bob...

Some sweet rifles there, efw; and some excellent groups, as well.

Slightly jealous... I'm not normally a smoker, but I do like a stogie every once in a while, and my gun club won't allow me to smoke when shooting.

Some nice shooting iron, too.
