Quarter Bore Club

The .24's and .25's are great - because with minimal recoil & blast they will flat out take game! After taking several mule deer and a few coyotes with my .25-06, I'm convinced that most of us are very well served with these mild kicking, accurate and very lethal, rifles.

Dr. Mike- thanks! You know there are sentimental connections you have to firsts and that Ackley, even though I know there are tons of things I'd do different if building it today, was my first custom so it has a special place in my cabinet. Having always been a CRF slut that Vangard has simply blown my mind! I just finished painting the stock and am taking it out for more testing w/ JD338 this Thursday.

BK- that was out at JD338's club in the sticks and we were the only 2 people there. The 2 clubs I'm a member of (one near my home, one near my office for client-type stuff) won't allow smoking on the firing lines (sheesh when you say it that way it sounds so ironic!) either.

On the one hand I think its a ludicrous example of our lack of freedom these days, but then I think about how distracting it could be if some dude right next to me and upwind was smoking a cigarette as I was squeezing out the last round of one of those perfect groups, and it kinda makes sense.

Of course, as with so much of the unnecessary rule making that goes on in our society, these wouldn't really be necessary if we were all considerate of one another and used (not-so)common sense...

Ok I'm off my soapbox... I do love me a nice cigar on a beautiful summer night while hanging with a good friend!

ant believe I missed this thread....

You're slipping. Must be the sun down south! I wondered when you'd throw a picture of your 250-3000 Savage onto the thread.

Yep - I was wondering the same thing Mike. We have actually way too many days with sun and temps in the 80's for me . Still am working on a brother that got my dads 250-3000 in a Savage 99.

CL - that sure is a nice speed goat. Was that shot in SD or points west?

That there is a Douglas Wyo. goat, courtesy of "Helluva Hunt" in 2006. CL
