Question for Nosler

I am not nosler, but I can give an educated guess. The Partition was the "original" premium bullet. meaning its front half still expands violently, but the rear core remains intact for up to 65-70% weight retention. Now the AccuBond doesn't have a Partition, instead its got a thick jacket, maybe not as thick as the Partition?, and its bonded, but I do know that the AB is meant to hold 55-60% weight. Now as far as im concerned, If a bullet has 10% more weight retentnion, then yah it will hold up a LITTLE better, but not by much. The Partition also will probly penetrate once again a LITTLE bit farther is all. If both bullets fully penetrate, I think they both did there job. 10% more weight retention is not a night/day diference in my opinion. I know everyone says the parittion is still the penetration bullet, but how can it be the holy grail of penetration compared to the AB when it will hold about 10% more weight?

Remmy is dead on. From a personal experience I can tell you they are great on game and Partition like performance. From antelope to elk.

Think of the AB as a bonded BT. The PT will retain more weight and penetrate the most.
The advantage of the AB is a better BC and still retaining 55-60% weight.

Let's see if this works

Wanted 325 grain 416 AB!

Nosler, there is a really big market for this bullet.
HORNADY has just announced a 250 gr SST. Now would be a good time to hit the market with a 338 cal 250 gr AB.

The weight retention numbers that you give here are in line with what I have seen from other sources. In my mind this illustrrates why the 200AB
in 30 cal is so great. If the 180PT retains 70% we are looking at a retained weight of 126gr or so. If the 200AB retains 70% we are looking at
120gr., close enough to each other. The 180PT starts faster, but the 200AB
retains vel. so much better & at a distance will pass the 180, not to mention the superior wind drift, & to get the long range per. with 180PT terminal effect is a great combination.

You are missing the biggest difference between the two. At high velocity the PT is designed to shed the nose of the bullet. The rest of the bullet (70%) continues at roughly the caliber plus a few thousanths. With the AccuBond the theory is an expansion of the entire bullet that is retarded by the bonding to the jacket preventing seperation. The result is the bullet traveling at nearly double the caliber.

Because of this the PT will have a greater penetration because of less resistance to the remaining prjectile, however the AccuBond will deposit more of its energy into the animal before exiting. This means that for Elk size game and smaller the AB should be the way to go. If one was hunting cape buffalo you might want the extra penetration.
